The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships quarterfinals are set and they sure do promise to be some good ones. Plenty of the top seeded players have been eliminated. However, the remaining eight players are top notch. There are only three seeded players left while the remaining five have caused some surprises on their journeys. Here are the four matches at the 2021 Dubai Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships.

WTA Dubai Tennis Championships Quarterfinals

Barbora Krejčíková vs Anastasia Potapova

This will be the first encounter between the two players. Both have surprised everyone thus far and it is a fresh of breath air. The Czech is most known for her doubles as she has won some Grand Slams in the past with Kateřina Siniaková. However, this week she has produced some quality wins in her single matches.

She has defeated Maria Sakkari, Jeļena Ostapenko, and Svetlana Kuznetsova to reach the last eight. She has yet to drop a set and looks great. On the other hand, the Russian teenager has defeated some big names. She took out Laura Siegemund, Madison Keys, and Belinda Bencic. She has only lost one set, to Belinda Bencic.

Indeed at the beginning of the tournament no one had them reach this far in the tournament. Both have played well throughout the week and are worthy to be in the last four. The young Russian has pure power while the Czech has plenty of variety on her game. We will see who will come on top in the end.

Elise Mertens vs Jessica Pegula

This will be their second encounter, with Elise Mertens wining last year at the Western & Southern Open in straight sets. Jessica Pegula is playing the best tennis of her career and will look for revenge and even their head to head. Although, it will not be easy as the Belgian is in top form as well.

Elise Mertens has only lost one set while eliminating Viktoriya Tomova, Shelby Rogers, and Caroline Garcia. The American has yet to lose a set while ousting Yaroslava Shvedova, Kristina Mladenovic, and the second seed Karolína Plíšková.

Jessica Pegula has found her game while Elise Mertens knows how to play against every opponent. Each has a different style of play and will implement them to their convenience. No doubt this match is an even one and it is a difficult one to predict.

Garbiñe Muguruza vs Aryna Sabalenka

This will be their third meeting and their head to head is even. They just played last week in Qatar, where the Spanish player won in three sets. It will be very interesting to see how Aryna Sabalenka will play this time. She has yet to drop a set, defeating Alize Cornet and Anett Kontaveit.

Garbiñe Muguruza has not dropped a set as well, as she has dispatched Irina-Camelia Begu, Amanda Anisimova, and Iga Świątek. The Spaniard is on fire as of recent after reaching the final in Doha and now reaching the quarterfinals in Dubai.

Without a doubt this will be another entertaining game between these two players. Expect a match like last week in Qatar as both ladies are some heavy hitters and will look to dominate early on in the match.

Jil Teichmann vs Coco Gauff

This will be their third encounter as the young teenager leads the series two games to love. Coco Gauff is playing incredible and is having a great week. She has defeated Ekaterina Alexandrova, Markéta Vondroušová, and Tereza Martincová to reach the best eight in Dubai.

The young Swiss player has eliminated Katarina Zavatska, Petra Kvitová, and Ons Jabeur in this tournament. It is important to note that Petra Kvitová withdrew from the match due to an injury while Jil Teichmann was a set ahead. However, she played very well and has not lost a set thus far.

Coco Gauff has the potential to become one of the greatest but she must keep improving as she is still only 16 years old. She has defeated the Swiss twice so she will try to continue that trend. Indeed this will be a great match and the young Swiss will try to finally defeat the young American for the first time.

Interesting Matches in Dubai

The quarterfinals in Dubai interesting ones with a few unexpected names remaining in the last eight spots. However, they are well known and have proven worthy to play in the quarterfinals. The four matches have the potential to be great and produce high level of tennis. All in all, the four matches will be great full of drama and twist and turns.
