I know we’re all trying to take a break after the eventful Australian Open we’ve just had, but the tennis just doesn’t stop. Moving onto a the ATP Singapore Tennis Open–a new event not originally on the schedule–former US Open champion Marin Cilic will be hoping to turn around poor form these past few years and become the force he once was.

Jason Jung vs Maxime Cressy

Yet another American who made their big outing at the Australian Open, Maxime Cressy lost to World #7 Alexander Zverev on Rod Laver in straight sets. Jason Jung has lost his last three matches all routinely in straight sets. There shouldn’t be much issue in Cressy continuing his good start to the year here.

Christopher Eubanks vs Alexei Popyrin
Head-to-head: 0-0
Coming off a big win against world #15 David Goffin at the Australian Open, the exciting–and still fairly young at 21–Alexei Popyrin will be hoping to continue his stride back into the top 100. Against Eubanks, ranked #239, this is a glorious opening match for the Australian and one he should win routinely.

Taro Daniel vs Ramkumar Ramanathan
Head-to-head: Daniel 1-0 (ITF Match)
It’s not often you get two players ranked outside the top 100 playing an official main draw event on the ATP Tour, but that’s what we have here given the weak field in Singapore this week. Taro Daniel, like many others has been for struggling for wins recently, but on the other hand the Indian has been losing early at Challenger events the last few months. If the Japanese man plays well it should be a fairly easy first round encounter.

Michael Mmoh vs Yoshihito Nishioka
Head-to-head: 0-0
Some of you might know American Mmoh just because he played Rafael Nadal 11 days ago at the Australian Open. While that was a mammoth ask, and he ended up just taking seven games in the three sets against the great Spaniard, he has a much better chance of beating Nishioka this time. The Japanese is coming into the match on a four match losing streak and has only won one set in 2021 thus far. This could go either way but Mmoh’s form might just edge it.
Prediction: Mmoh in 3
