Best of 5 Wimbledon Day 4: Including Ryan Harrison vs Tomas Berdych

Day 4 at Wimbledon features potential upset bids from veterans Marcos Baghdatis and Gilles Simon. Ryan Harrison will be trying to chop down Tomas Berdych, Yuichi Sugita and Adrian Mannarino will reprise their recent ATP final, and aging veteran David Ferrer aims for a surprise third round showing. Steen: Both players have four wins on grass this year, but Dimitrov is the better player, and in better form, he also leads the h2h by a huge margin. Baghdatis shotmaking should come up short if Dimitrov can wear him down. Dimitrov in 3

Jakub: Though Dimitrov was pushed to a tiebreak by Schwartzman in the first set, he cruised through the other two sets easily. Marcos Baghdatis also came through in straight sets against James Ward, who is yet to win a set this year. The head-to-head speaks clearly in the favor of Dimitrov, 7-1. Baghdatis won their only meeting on grass, so maybe he could push Dimitrov. Dimitrov in 4

Steen: Both players snapped losing streaks in round 1, but Thiem has beaten Simon twice this year and looked good enough in round 1 that I have faith he will win this rather easily. Simon is not playing at a high enough level to get an upset. Thiem in 3

Jakub: Thiem surprised me with his straight set win over Pospisil, I expected him to lose or struggle. Simon dealt with the qualifier Nicolas Jarry. Neither of them really like the surface, but again Thiem is leading the head-to-head 5-2, and he’s going to make it 6-2. Thiem in 3

Brett: I didn’t like Thiem’s chances against Pospisil, but he seemed to look comfortable on the grass. Simon will test, and challenge him a little bit but not enough to pull off the upset. Thiem in 4

Steen: Darcis can be tricky with his serve and volley, but I have to respect Ferrer’s hustle. He’s in a serious decline, but he fought hard to win in round 1 and should be able to keep it up against a fellow veteran to win. Ferrer in 4

Brett: I don’t think anyone expected David Ferrer to get past an in form Richard Gasquet on his favorite surface. I don’t think Ferrer will be able to play at that same level again but will do enough to get past a tough grass court player in Darcis. Ferrer in 5

Steen: Harrison snapped a long losing streak to reach round 2, but Berdych’s grass court ability, and form is better, and he leads the h2h. I’d be surprised if the Czech dropped a set. Berdych in 3

Jakub: Berdych came though Chardy in 4 sets and Harrison beat Coric in 3. Berdych leads the head-to-head 2-0. He is more experienced on grass and his game is overall more suited to the surface. Berdych in 4

Brett: Ryan Harrison is looking to reach the 3rd round of Wimbledon for the first time in his career. He’s playing good enough to put a scare in Berdych, but don’t think it’ll be enough to beat the 11th seed. Berdych in 5

Steen: Both players are in good form, but Sugita just beat Mannarino on grass and his form has been fantastic in recent months. The Japanese player is finally reaching his potential and should win here. Sugita in 4

Jakub: A replay of the Antalya final from last week went to Sugita. The Japanese player broke into Top 50 and beat Brydan Klein in straight sets. Mannarino got through by retirement of Feliciano Lopez. I think it’s going to be Sugita again. Sugita in 4

Brett: Yuichi Sugita just defeated Adrian Mannarino 6-1 7-6(4) to win his first tour level event on Saturday in Antalya. This time, they’ll play with a chance to get to the 3rd round of Wimbledon. I think Mannarino in a best of 5 has the upper hand and will move on. Mannarino in 4
