The WTA Acapulco Mexican Open final pits 17 year old Leylah Fernandez, a qualifier, against Heather Watson who is nearing a return to the WTA top 50. Here is your prediction for the final.
Leylah Fernandez vs Heather Watson
Watson beat Fernandez at the ITF level last year but the young gun Canadian is the slight favorite in this one having gone on a remarkable run of 6 matches without dropping a set that started in qualifying. In the semifinals Fernandez nixed the fairy tale run of Mexico’s own Renata Zarazua. Watson beat Xiyu Wang in the semis and has played well despite dropping a couple of sets this tournament. Both players will be pleased to make a final, the first in her career for Fernandez. I expect her to play well but Watson’s experience will win the day and shine through. Watson in 3
