Serena Williams vs Jessica Pegula
Head to Head: never played
Serena Williams battles Jessica Pegula in the Auckland final. Serena Williams showed some of her best tennis in easily beating Amanda Anisimova 6-1, 6-1 to reach the final. At one point Williams won seven games in a row. Williams was not broken in the match and only faced one break point. Jessica Pegula had to come back from a set down in her semifinal match against Caroline Wozniacki. However, once Pegula started to play her best tennis, she was very difficult to break down. Pegula won the final eight games of the match to spoil on of the last tournament’s of Wozniacki’s career.
These two have never played before. This match will be power taking on power as both players like to rip their groundstrokes and push their opponents around the court. Wiliams has the edge with her serve, as it is extremely fast and accurate. Pegula will have to hope that Williams is having an off day on her serve. Williams will have to cautious about going to the Pegula backhand, as Pegula has been very strong on that side this week. At the end of the day, Williams is just better at playing a power game than Pegula. Williams can stay in rallies longer and has more firepower.
Expect Serena Williams to be the champion in Auckland!
