We’re up to Day 4 of the inaugural ATP Cup. We’ve seen intense emotions, great tennis, and quality upsets so far. What does the rest of the tournament have in store? Let’s find out, as group play really heats up. We also have predictions for four other ATP Cup matches on Monday.
ATP Cup Day 4 Predictions
Benoit Paire vs Dusan Lajovic
Each of these players picked up good wins in their initial matches. Paire is the better player, though he can be less consistent at times. This should be a good match, and I expect three sets, but the Frenchman is the safer pick to win.
Prediction: Paire in 3
Yoshihito Nishioka vs Nikoloz Basilashvili
Nishioka shockingly dominated Pablo Cuevas in his opening match, while Basilashvili fought hard before ultimately losing to Rafael Nadal. There’s no shame in that, though it was nowhere near as impressive as what Nishioka did. Nishioka has been improving in recent years, and looks to have made a good jump in the offseason, but Basilashvili has the matchup advantage in this one.
Prediction: Basilashvili in 3
Marin Cilic vs Kamil Majchrzak
Cilic looked decent in his opener against Dennis Novak, but nowhere near his absolute best. Majchrzak is a solid talent and improving, but there’s not much he can do against the raw power of Cilic. As long as Cilic is playing consistent tennis, he’ll win this match easily.
Prediction: Cilic in 2
Kevin Anderson vs Christian Garin
Garin lost a very tough opening match to Gael Monfils, while Kevin Anderson pushed Novak Djokovic to the brink in his first match, but couldn’t win either tiebreak. Garin might be able to take a tiebreak, but Anderson will be the better player here.
Prediction: Anderson in 3
