Day 4 in Luxembourg should be good as the WTA season winds down. Find out who we think moves on to the quarterfinals in Luxembourg.
WTA Luxembourg Day 4 Predictions
Monica Puig vs Kristyna Pliskova
H2H- 1-1
Monica Puig has been a rhythm player throughout her career, and her first-round win over Fiona Ferro showed that she looks to be in good form right now. Puig got past Ferro 6-1 6-0 in under an hour. It shouldn’t be that easy against Kristyna Pliskova who advanced to the second round with a win over Aliona Bolsova. Pliskova has the game to hit any opponent off the court, but I think Puig in her current form should win here.
Prediction: Puig in 3
Tatjana Maria vs Anna Blinkova
H2H- 1-1
Anna Blinkova played well in her first-round win over Coco Gauff. Although Gauff looked to be a little fatigued, Blinkova still had to handle business on her side of the net to come up with a 6-4 6-0 win over the future star. Tatjana Maria survived a tough first-round match against American Shelby Rogers coming back from a break down in the third set to pick up the win. These two met last year in Luxembourg with Blinkova winning in straight sets, and I think the result will be the same this year.
Prediction: Blinkova in 2
Sorana Cirstea vs Julia Goerges
H2H- 2-2
Defending Luxembourg champion Julia Goerges got off to a rough start, dropping the opening set to Misaki Doi before turning it around to win in three sets. Goerges won’t be able to get away with a slow start tomorrow against a player in Cirstea who is coming in full of confidence after a finals appearance in Tashkent a couple of weeks ago. Goerges is expected to win this one, but I think Cirstea just might pull off the upset.
Prediction: Cirstea in 3
Antonia Lottner vs Andrea Petkovic
H2H- Lottner leads 1-0
Andrea Petkovic started the season off terribly but has found some form as of late. The German reached the semifinals in Linz and got a past a tricky opponent in Camila Giorgia yesterday after dropping the opening set 6-0. Lottner also looks good right now after coming through qualifying and winning her opening round match. Look for the more experienced player in Petkovic to get the win here.
Prediction: Petkovic in 2
Jelena Ostapenko vs Elise Mertens
H2H- First Meeting
I thought Jelena Ostapenko would put up a similar performance as we saw from Coco Gauff, but credit to the Latvian for not looking fatigued at all in her straight-set win over American Caty McNally. It doesn’t get any easier with a matchup against #1 seed Elise Mertens. Mertens had no trouble in her opening round against lucky loser Bibiane Schoofs winning 6-0 6-3. The quality of this match should be high for a second-round match at a WTA International level event, but I think the #1 seed gets through here.
Prediction: Mertens in 3
