Who will win in the quarterfinals of the WTA Tashkent Open on Thursday? We offer our thoughts on all four of the day’s matches.
WTA Tashkent Open Quarterfinal Predictions
Sorana Cirstea vs Danka Kovinic
Kovinic was impressive in upsetting Margarita Gasparyan in the last round. I definitely didn’t see that one coming. Still, it’s hard to think that she’ll pull off another, especially considering that Cirstea is playing some good tennis right now.
Prediction: Cirstea in 2
Katarina Zavatska vs Anna Kalinskaya
Zavatska has had a great week here and her play is improving, but I think we are finally seeing the start of a breakout star in Anna Kalinskaya. Her play is improving constantly, and will only continue to get even better as she matures. I don’t know if she’ll win the title this week, but she should at least get a semifinal showing–and likely to the final, too.
Prediction: Kalinskaya in 3
Alison Van Uytvanck vs Pauline Parmentier
Parmentier has had a pretty solid week, but Van Uytvanck has been utterly dominant. She hasn’t been the most consistent player over the course of her career, but this week she has absolutely been living up to her full potential. If Van Uytvnack can keep up this level for the rest of the week, no one in this draw is beating her. No one will even come close.
Prediction: Van Uytvanck in 2
Viktoria Kuzmova vs Kristyna Pliskova
Kuzmova needed a third-set tiebreak to get past Greet Minnen in the last round, while Pliskova also needed three sets to advance past Katarzyna Kawa. This should be a tight match between two talented players. They have never met before, and it’s tough to predict who wins. Regardless, I feel comfortable in thinking that this will go three sets.
Prediction: Kuzmova in 3
