The WTA Tour returns to Uzbekistan for the WTA Tashkent Open. Main draw action gets underway Monday, and we’re predicting it for you. In addition to this set of predictions, we are also predicting four more matches.
WTA Tashkent Open Day 1 Predictions
Harriet Dart vs Anna Kalinskaya
Kalinskaya had an impressive summer, qualifying for both Wimbledon and the US Open, and made a deep run in Washington in between. Dart has often been hoped to be the next great Brit, but she really hasn’t made much progress at the top levels of singles.
Prediction: Kalinskaya in 2
Tereza Martincova vs Irina-Camelia Begu
Martincova has also had a decent summer, as she qualified for both Wimbledon and the US Open as well. Begu, meanwhile, has struggled, and her ranking has fallen almost outside the Top 100. Begu is definitely the more talented player, but she hasn’t been playing up to her ability recently. Martincova, while not as talented, is in better form right now. I’ll go with the Czech, but this could definitely go either way.
Prediction: Martincova in 3
Alison Van Uytvanck vs Liudmila Samsonova
Samsonova is a decent player near her career-high ranking, though she has never cracked the Top 100. Van Uytvanck, meanwhile, is a very talented player who can challenge those at the top of the game, and has been playing well all summer. This one won’t be close.
Prediction: Van Uytvanck in 2
Viktoria Kuzmova vs Francesca Di Lorenzo
Di Lorenzo has made her breakthrough this summer with her powerful serve. She scored upset wins in Toronto and the US Open. While she is capable of these feats, she currently sits at No. 141 in the world for a reason. She is not yet able to consistently perform at a top level. If she does, an upset is on the cards here. But with her lack of consistency this summer, it’s hard to call it.
Prediction: Kuzmova in 2
