French Open Day 4 Men’s Predictions Including Stan Wawrinka vs Christian Garin
Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Hugo Dellien
Yesh: Everyone is raving about Stefanos Tsitsipas right now, but Hugo Dellien is quietly having an impressive clay season. He also brought an incredibly impressive beatdown in Round 1. An upset here is definitely possible. Dellien in 5
Steen: Dellien is a capable player and has the goods to challenge Tsitsipas here. With that said, the Greek has been stepping up his game lately and I don’t see him faltering this early. Expect Tsitsipas to take a good mindset into this match and prevail. Tsitsipas in 3
Stan Wawrinka vs Christian Garin
Yesh: This should be a tough match for both players. Garin is a rising young star, especially on clay, while Wawrinka is a former French Open champion who is just getting back into form after a lengthy injury. If Wawrinka was at the top of his game he’d win easily, but he’s still working his way back now. Wawrinka in 5
Steen: Garin is best on clay and despite not being a household name, he’s playing some of the best tennis of his career this season. Wawrinka is slowly returning to form, and despite being unlikely to challenge for this title, you can’t count out the former French Open champion in any slam match. Wawrinka’s fitness should be challenged here though, and if Garin can keep his errors down and stay in the match he’ll at least take a set, and perhaps win the whole thing. Garin in 5
Leonardo Mayer vs Diego Schwartzman
Yesh: Schwartzman struggled in his first match, but he managed to overcome it. He’ll be too solid for Leonardo Mayer, eventually. Schwartzman in 4
Steen: Two Argentines who are comfortable on clay, they should know each others games well enough to suggest this match will be a scrap. I expect Schwartzman to grind his way to a win despite Mayer’s best efforts. Schwartzman in 4
Rafael Nadal vs Yannick Maden
Yesh: Nadal beat down Yannick Hanfmann in his opening match. He gets another German named Yannick in the second round, and expect a similar result. Maden will probably win a few more games than Hanfmann did, but not much. Nadal in 3
Steen: Another nice training hit for Nadal, the former NCAA player Maden is sure to try his best but Nadal on clay in Paris is incredibly tough to even take a set from, something I doubt happens here. Nadal in 3
