WTA Strasbourg Final Prediction: Dayana Yastremska vs Caroline Garcia

WTA Strasbourg

After a week’s worth of topsy-turvy results, the women’s singles final has been set at the Internationaux de Strasbourg. The No.6 seed Dayana Yastremska will play No.4 seed Caroline Garcia in Saturday’s final, in the last stop before action regroups in Paris, at the French Open.

Yastremska comes in as an up-and-coming youngster, and one to watch in future years.

Garcia, on the other hand, is a seasoned veteran, relatively. The 25-year-old Frenchwoman has won two WTA titles in her career, both coming in 2017. She defeated Simona Halep in the China Open final that year. Yastremska doesn’t quite have the success in her career that Garcia does, but the Ukrainian will definitely pick up plenty of big wins in the future.

WTA Strasbourg Final Prediction: Dayana Yastremska vs Caroline Garcia

The Ukrainian upset the second seed Aryna Sabalenka 6-4 6-4 in their semifinal. From start to finish, Yastremska kept up the aggression against Sabalenka, not giving her any chance to impose her game on the course of the match. The 19-year-old’s intense composure will be a good contrast to Garcia’s icy fierceness. The Frenchwoman defeated compatriot Chloe Paquet 6-4, 6-3 in their semi-final to wrap up the semifinal action of the day.

This is Garcia’s first final of the 2019 season while Yastremska reached – and won – the title in Hua Hin, earlier in the year. This will the first time these two players will meet each other, evening out the probability of each player winning. The players have combined for three career titles–one for Yastremska and two for Garcia–but all have come on hard courts. Which of these two women will collect a first clay title this week?

On paper, this looks like a very even matchup. However, if the match’s proceedings trickle down to mental fortitude, Yastremska should go in as the favored player to come through.
Prediction: Yastremska in 3
