Wimbledon stars Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev won’t be playing in the Nordea Open, held in Bastad, but there’s a lot of exciting tennis ahead at the ATP 250 on clay courts. The action starts on Monday, with qualifying matches and one main draw match scheduled for Center Court. LWOT has the predictions for each of the Center Court matchups at ATP Bastad.
ATP Bastad Day 1 Predictions
Igor Marcondes vs Lautaro Midon
Head-to-head: First meeting
Both players have just one ATP Tour main-draw appearance to their names, setting up this final-round qualifying match as a high-pressure affair. While Marcondes has struggled to win consecutive matches in 2026, Midon holds a strong 23-15 record at ATP Challenger Tour level in 2026, including a final, according to Tennis Abstract. The Argentinian may have the upper hand, but Marcondes clinched an impressive 6-4, 7-6 (5) victory in his first qualifying match over the No. 3 seed. Expecting a back-and-forth three-setter.
Prediction: Midon in 3
Carlos Sanchez Jover vs Taro Daniel
Head-to-head: First meeting
Formerly ranked in the Top 60, Daniel has not played in an ATP Tour main draw since September 2025. He’ll look to control the points against Sanchez Jover, who has hovered around the 300-400 mark in the rankings; he advanced to this stage after Roberto Carballés Baena retired mid-match. Daniel, meanwhile, lost just two games in his sole qualifying match and has a main-draw win at this tournament from 2016. The 33-year-old Daniel should do enough to reach the main draw, but Sanchez Jover may have nothing to lose at ATP Bastad.
Prediction: Daniel in 3
Jesper De Jong vs Vilius Gaubas
Head-to-head: First meeting
De Jong lost a hard-fought final at ATP Bastad in 2025, meaning he’ll have to defend significant ranking points for the first time in his career. He’s comfortable on the clay courts, and he made the fourth round of the French Open before winning another clay-court ATP Challenger Tour event. Gaubas, meanwhile, is coming off his first two Grand Slam main draw appearances at the French Open and Wimbledon. De Jong may feel some pressure, but his counterpunching and confidence on clay courts suggest he’ll have another solid run in Sweden.
Prediction: De Jong in 2
