Coco Gauff ahead of Wimbledon

Wimbledon Day 3 Predictions Including Coco Gauff vs Solana Sierra

The second round of Wimbledon is upon us, and it is already looking like we could be in store for another frenzied Grand Slam. Coco Gauff takes the court as she hunts for her first Wimbledon title. As always, we at LWOT offer our roundtable predictions for every match on the slate. But who will advance?

Wimbledon Day 3 Predictions

Jessica Pegula vs Sara Sorribes Tormo

Amanda
In the first round, Sara Sorribes Tormo didn’t face much resistance in a straight-set win, but it’ll be a different story against Jessica Pegula. Pegula turned what could have been a tight opener into a straight-set win of her own and is playing well. Sorribes Tormo’s biggest weapon is her consistency in rallies, but Pegula can match that and outhit her.
Prediction: Pegula in 2

Jordan
Pegula should prevail comfortably here. Sorribes Tormo has never made the third round at Wimbledon, and her gritty style does not work as well on grass. Pegula, a dark horse for the title, to win quickly.
Prediction: Pegula in 2

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Lanlana Tararudee

Amanda
Lanlana Tararudee’s first main-draw win at a Grand Slam came in a tough three-setter, and it’s hard to see her run continuing against a much stronger player in Ekaterina Alexandrova. While Alexandrova has never been a factor later at Grand Slams, this is the type of match she tends to win in the early rounds.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 2

Jordan
2026 has been far from perfect for Alexandrova, but Wimbledon represents a decent chance for her to turn her fortunes around. Tararudee is a talented player who always grinds hard. Overall, I think Alexandrova’s firepower will prove decisive.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 3

Claire Liu vs Zeynep Sönmez

Amanda
Zeynep Sönmez is slowly but surely finding her footing on grass, and though Claire Liu’s run through qualifying and the first round was impressive, she hasn’t looked convincing enough to beat an on-the-rise Sönmez. The match could get close, but ultimately Sönmez is playing better tennis right now.
Prediction: Sönmez in 3

Jordan
Both women battled through their previous rounds in three sets. This could easily go either way. Sönmez is very narrowly favored because of her fighting qualities.
Prediction: Sönmez in 3

Coco Gauff vs Solana Sierra

Amanda
Coco Gauff’s first round was the best grass-court match she’s played since 2024, but Solana Sierra will be a trickier opponent. Sierra can really challenge Gauff on natural surfaces, as she did this year in Rome, but if Gauff serves as well as she did in her opener, she should pull through.
Prediction: Gauff in 3

Jordan
Since her stunning breakthrough at the event seven years ago, Gauff has struggled more on grass than any surface. That makes this favorable second-round draw especially good news for her. Sierra plays her best tennis by far on clay.
Prediction: Gauff in 2
