Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Western & Southern Open

ATP Mallorca Quarterfinal Predictions Including Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Grigor Dimitrov

Despite being an ATP 250, the Mallorca Open quarterfinals feature a strong lineup headlined by the top two seeds, Luciano Darderi and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Fan favorite Grigor Dimitrov also makes his first last eight of a tournament in a long time. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for all the matches, but which players will advance to the semifinals?

ATP Mallorca Quarterfinal Predictions

Ethan Quinn vs Vit Kopriva

Head-to-Head: Quinn 2-0 Kopriva

Ethan Quinn lost in the second round here last year, but this time he made sure to advance to the quarterfinals by defeating Murphy Cassone in three sets. Quinn hit 18 aces in the match and barely lost points behind his first serve, but a sloppy performance in the second set tiebreak cost him the set. Vit Kopriva had zero Tour-level wins on grass before this week, and now he has won two matches without dropping a set. He is having the best season of his career, and I am backing him to take out the American.
Prediction: Kopriva in 3

Miomir Kecmanovic vs Fabian Marozsan

Head-to-Head: Kecmanovic 1-2 Marozsan

These two met last week in Halle, where Fabian Marozsan won in three sets, and Miomir Kecmanovic will be looking to avenge the loss. Kecmanovic had another tough match against Lorenzo Sonego in the second round and won the match despite his opponent winning more points. Marozsan had a much more straightforward second-round match and would be looking to make it three in a row against the Serbian on this surface. Kecmanovic missed out barely on the previous two occasions, and I think he would be motivated for this one.
Prediction: Kecmanovic in 3

Luciano Darderi vs Nuno Borges

Head-to-Head: Darderi 0-1 Borges

Top seed Luciano Darderi won remarkably as he saved 12 break points against Yannick Hanfmann and improved the head-to-head to 5-0. Hanfmann almost always posed a threat to break, but Darderi saved them and then capitalized on his chances. However, Nuno Borges is playing great tennis and won’t miss this many opportunities if presented. I like the Portuguese in this one to make his first-ever semifinal on grass.
Prediction: Borges in 3

Alejandro Davidovich Fokina vs Grigor Dimitrov

Head-to-Head: Davidovich Fokina 2-0 Dimitrov

#2 seed Alejandro Davidovich Fokina made a strong start to his week as he defeated Adam Walton in straight sets. The Spaniard didn’t face a break point and is looking better with each match on this surface. He will face Grigor Dimitrov, who needed a week like this to get his confidence back before Wimbledon. Dimitrov’s performance wasn’t as clinical as he showed in the first round, but he was clutch when it mattered. The Bulgarian is on the right track and at his best would be the favorite to win the title in Mallorca, but at this moment, I would give a slight edge to Davidovich Fokina.
Prediction: Davidovich Fokina in 3
