The WTA Rome qualifying round unfolds on Monday. The biggest tournament before the French Open gets going in Italy. Players who did not do well in Madrid will try to bounce back in Rome and gain some momentum on clay before moving to Paris later in May. There’s a lot to play for in Rome. Let’s look at three matches on the Monday card.
WTA Rome
Birrell – Yuan: Time 7:00 EST
H2H: 2-1
Kimberly Birrell and Yue Yuan met earlier this year in Miami qualifying. Birrell won in three sets, in a match where she finished with two more games won. That was on hardcourt, however. This match in Rome is on clay. Yuan is the betting market favorite in this match for a simple reason: She has won seven matches on clay this year while Birrell has won none. Yuan has been playing challengers in recent weeks. Birrell played in the first round of Madrid but lost. That’s her only clay match played in the European spring clay season.
Best Bet to Make
Yue Yuan is indeed playing Challengers and not the main tour, but Birrell is not trying to get many matches on clay. She could be playing clay challengers. She could have tried to play tournaments in April. She chose not to. It’s concerning that Birrell hasn’t won on clay this year, but it’s alarming that Birrell seems to show no real interest in wanting to play more on the surface and improve her game. This is why Yuan is the favorite, and we think Yuan will win.
That being said, betting on Yuan winning is a value bet for sure.

Osorio – Kalinina: Time 7:00 EST
H2H: 1-2
Camila Osorio and Anhelina Kalinina have one specific thing in common: They both lost to Naomi Osaka in Madrid. Osorio lost in the second round, Kalinina in the third round. Osorio lost in the Bogota Round of 16 a few weeks ago. Kalinina lost in the Linz Round of 16 a few weeks ago. It’s a very interesting match on paper, and the betting markets agree, pricing this very close to a toss-up. The average price for an Osorio win is 1.88, for Kalinina 1.85.
Best Bet to Make
This match is not easy to call, and the betting markets think it’s basically a toss-up for good reason. Osorio is the higher-ranked player, but Kalinina has won more matches on clay in 2026. Both players lost to the same opponent, Osaka, in Madrid. Here’s what we think might make the difference: Kalinina has played nine matches since April 2, while Osorio has played only two. Kalinina is more match-fit and should have more rhythm. That’s enough to recommend picking Kalinina on the moneyline.
That being said, betting on Kalinina winning is a value bet for sure.

Parks – Galfi: Time 7:00 EST
H2H: 0-2
Alycia Parks and Dalma Galfi met in April in Linz. Galfi won 6-3, 6-3. Will the same kind of match unfold in Rome, or will Parks make adjustments? Parks has generally been playing well, having won six of her last eight matches. Galfi has been solid, too, winning five of her last eight matches. Parks made the second round in Madrid. Galfi made the third round before losing to eventual Madrid runner-up Mirra Andreeva.
Best Bet to Make
Galfi might win the match, but she is not a higher-ranked player than Parks, and Parks has been playing reasonably well. Galfi winning a recent head-to-head match by a comfortable margin is why Galfi is priced as the betting market favorite, and that makes sense. However, Parks is a better player overall and is likely to make enough adjustments to at least keep the match close. Taking Parks against the game spread seems like the better play than picking Galfi to win the match, but you could go either way.
That being said, betting on Parks +3.5 games is a value bet for sure.
