This year’s ATP Mexican Open in Acapulco has seen major upsets, with none of the top four seeds reaching the quarterfinals. However, most of the remaining seeded players performed well in the quarterfinals and have advanced to the last four. As always, we at LWOT will offer predictions for both matches. But which players will fight for the title?
ATP Acapulco Semifinal Predictions
Frances Tiafoe vs Brandon Nakashima
Head-to-Head: Tiafoe 5-1 Nakashima
Frances Tiafoe defeated Mattia Bellucci in straight sets to reach his first hard-court semifinal since the 2024 US Open. It was not a straightforward match as the scoreline suggests, as Tiafoe had to save a lot of break points with clutch plays. He has taken advantage of the draw opening up and will look to keep the momentum.
Tiafoe has a great head-to-head record against his compatriot, Brandon Nakashima, who made an impressive comeback after losing the first set easily in the quarterfinals against Valentin Vacherot. Nakashima will have to serve extremely well to have a chance here.
Prediction: Tiafoe in 3
Flavio Cobolli vs Miomir Kecmanovic
Head-to-Head: Cobolli 0-1 Kecmanovic
Top remaining seed Flavio Cobolli saved eight out of eight break points to defeat the dangerous Yibing Wu in straight sets. He saved two break points in the first and kept going down 15-40 in his service games in the second, but held every time. Cobolli seems to have regained his form and confidence after a horrible start to the season.
Miomir Kecmanovic showed no signs of fatigue after a gruelling match against Alexander Zverev and crushed a seemingly ill Terence Atmane in straight sets. Kecmanovic has played great tennis all week, and this is the biggest semifinal of his career. I expect a thrilling encounter, but Kecmanovic will find it difficult to hit through the defense of Cobolli in these slow conditions. He might go for more and lose his shape.
Prediction: Cobolli in 3
