24-time Major champion Novak Djokovic is back in action next week at the ATP 250 in Athens.
Djokovic pulled out of the Rolex Paris Masters last week and has yet to confirm his participation in the Nitto ATP Finals. However, he will return to action at a newly launched event in Athens, where his brother Djordje Djokovic serves as tournament director.
Djokovic’s 2025 Season Not Done Yet
Why Athens?
Organizers moved the tournament from Djokovic’s native Belgrade to the Greek capital in August. Since Novak Djokovic’s family runs the tournament, many have speculated that friction between the 24-time Grand Slam champion and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic prompted the decision to move it to Athens.
The OAKA Basketball Arena will host the event on indoor hard courts.
Djokovic’s 2025 Season
Despite not adding to his all-time Major tally in 2025, primarily due to the emergence of Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz, Djokovic has had a remarkable season given his age and physical issues.
He made the semifinals at all four Slams and won an ATP title in Geneva, which was his career’s 100th. Additionally, he also reached the final at the Miami Open, where he lost to Jakub Mensik.
Since then, the Serb has played a minimal schedule. Most recently, he made the semifinals at the Rolex Shanghai Masters, where he lost to then-world No. 204 Valentin Vacherot.
Debut in Athens
Djokovic will debut in Athens on Tuesday, the 4th of November, against the winner of Alejandro Tabilo and Adam Walton, after receiving a first-round bye as the top seed in the tournament.
The match airs on Tennis Channel in the US and across the Sky network in Europe. You can find the complete broadcasting list here.
At 38 years old, a Djokovic match always feels like a spectacle, and it’s quite likely that Athens 2025 marks his season finale. As such, a packed crowd and an electric atmosphere are guaranteed.
