Three more players have qualified for the 2025 WTA Finals, with two more spots up for grabs in the remaining tournaments in October.
The trio of Amanda Anisimova, Madison Keys, and Jessica Pegula joins Aryna Sabalenka, Iga Swiatek, and Coco Gauff at the year-end championships. For the second year in a row, the WTA Finals will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Sabalenka was the first player to qualify after another outstanding season, reaching three Grand Slam finals and retaining the US Open last month. Swiatek soon followed after winning Wimbledon and Cincinnati and the Pole will seek a second title at the season finale. Defending champion Gauff secured her spot in the eight-woman party when she beat Belinda Bencic at the China Open earlier this month.
And for the first time in her career, Anisimova will play at the WTA Finals thanks to her second title success in a WTA 1000 tournament in Beijing. The 24-year-old has overtaken Gauff in the race and is now in pole position to finish the season as the American No. 1 in the women’s rankings.
Madison Keys hasn’t played since the US Open, but the 30-year-old was assured of a spot at the WTA Finals next month thanks to her status as a Grand Slam champion (won the 2025 Australian Open). Keys also met the requirement that in case she finishes outside the top eight of the race, she will be ranked in the top 20 regardless of whether she adds points to her current tally. This will be her second participation and first since 2016, when the event was held in Singapore.
The sixth woman to qualify is Jessica Pegula. Elena Rybakina’s defeat to Sabalenka in Wuhan helped the Buffalo native. Pegula needed to at least make the Wuhan final, but she’s now locked in her spot earlier than she might have expected.
Who else can qualify?
Only two more spots are currently open for the three remaining contenders. These are Rybakina (9th), Jasmine Paolini (8th), and Mirra Andreeva (7th). Both Rybakina and Andreeva are out of Wuhan, and Paolini who has her qualification chances on her racket this week. However, the Italian faces a tall order in the semifinals as she plays Coco Gauff on Saturday.
It’s still possible that all three women qualify if Keys cannot recover in time to play at the WTA Finals. The American is an injury concern, and if she withdraws, her spot will open up for the ninth-placed player in the race.
