Novak Djokovic Confirms Shanghai Return: What’s Next on His 2025 Schedule?

Novak Djokovic has officially outlined a busy late-season schedule for 2025, with three tournaments confirmed and speculation swirling over whether he will appear at the prestigious year-end finals in Turin.

The world #1 will return to the Shanghai Masters 1000 (October 1–12), one of the premier events on the ATP calendar and a tournament where he has enjoyed considerable success. Djokovic is a four-time champion in Shanghai, and last year he reached the final before falling to Jannik Sinner. His confirmation has already heightened anticipation in China, where he remains a fan favorite. With the Asian swing becoming increasingly competitive, Djokovic’s presence ensures a headline attraction as he continues to chase more Masters 1000 silverware.

From Shanghai, the Serbian superstar will travel to Saudi Arabia for the Six Kings Slam exhibition in Riyadh (October 15–18). The event, featuring some of the sport’s biggest names, is part of the growing push to expand tennis’s footprint in the Middle East. It has quickly become the most lucrative exhibition in tennis, offering players a $1.5 million appearance fee and a staggering $6 million prize for the winner.

Djokovic’s family-owned event, formerly staged in Belgrade, will also take on a fresh identity this season. The tournament has been relocated and rebranded as the Athens Open (ATP 250, November 1–8). The move to Greece provides a new stage for Djokovic to showcase his continued commitment to growing tennis across different regions while maintaining a personal family connection to the tour calendar.

The major question remains whether Djokovic will appear at the ATP Finals in Turin (November 9–16). Already qualified, the 24-time Grand Slam champion skipped the event last year despite holding the record for most titles at the prestigious year-end championships with seven. Fans are eager to see if he will return to the Pala Alpitour, where his dominance has helped shape the event’s modern era.

With his 2025 late-season plans coming into sharper focus, Djokovic continues to demonstrate remarkable longevity and influence both on and off the court. Whether he chooses to cap his year in Turin or not, his schedule guarantees a thrilling series of appearances that will keep the spotlight firmly on one of tennis’s greatest icons.

About Zain Mustafa

Being brought up in a sports-watching home, some of the spheres flying across the TV screen stuck with me more than others, the yellow fuzzy one probably the most. A lefty Mallorcan got me into it, a righty Murcian has kept me in it after him, but to be honest, once I was in, I never felt like leaving anyway.
