Two Grand Slam champions will be in action on Day 2 in Seoul. 2024 Wimbledon winner Barbora Krejcikova’s match is one of three predicted in this article. In a separate piece, we here at LWOT cover the other matches, including Emma Raducanu vs Jaqueline Cristian. Which players do you think will win?
WTA Seoul Day 2 Predictions
Sorana Cirstea vs Anastasia Zakharova
Head-to-head: Cirstea 1-0 Zakharova
Cirstea defeated Zakharova 6-1 7-5 in the semifinal of her run to the Cleveland title a few weeks ago. She did not lose more than six games in any of her seven matches during that incredible patch of form. Zakharova is in the Seoul main draw as a lucky loser. Although Cirstea probably will not reach the heights seen in Cleveland again, I still expect her powerful hitting to be good enough to beat Zakharova for a second consecutive time.
Prediction: Cirstea in 2
Diana Shnaider vs Caty McNally
Head-to-head: First meeting
McNally has played some of the best tennis of her career since Wimbledon. The American will try to disrupt Shnaider by using variety and coming to the net when it is possible. Although Shnaider won the Monterrey Open title a few weeks ago, she has been inconsistent and prone to upsets this year. The 21-year-old’s more complete game makes her the favorite, but she cannot afford any slackness against the in-form McNally.
Prediction: Shnaider in 3
Barbora Krejcikova vs Tatiana Prozorova
Head-to-head: First meeting
Prozorova played very well in qualifying, easily beating Varvara Gracheva and Katie Volynets in straight sets. Krejcikova, after a challenging season because of form and fitness issues, had her best run of the year at the US Open, losing in the quarterfinal to Jessica Pegula. The lively conditions in Seoul should suit the Czech and give her a good chance of building on the momentum created in New York. I expect Krejcikova to come through this match.
Prediction: Krejcikova in 2
