Who will advance?
WTA Day 4 Montreal Predictions
Karolina Muchova vs Antonia Ružić
Head-to-head: First meeting
As Muchova continues to build on a steady 2025 season, Ruzic will look to play spoiler in Montreal after she broke through in qualifying. Ruzic stunned Anastasia Potapova from a set down in her first round match, though she’s never faced a player in the Top 20 like Muchova. The Czech has too much variety and should like the hard courts of Montreal on this occasion.
Prediction: Muchova in 2
Elina Svitolina vs Kamilla Rakhimova
Head-to-head: First meeting
Svitolina and her strong counterpunching won the Canadian Open in 2017, and she should like both this tournament and the matchup against Rakhimova — who is reliant on aggressive tennis and big serves. The Ukrainian has the experience in these big summer tournaments to go far. To have a good shot at the upset, Rakhimova will have to tee off Svitolina’s serve, which is arguably the Ukrainian’s biggest weakness. Either way, look for Svitolina to advance to the next round.
Prediction: Svitolina in 2
Clara Tauson vs Lucia Bronzetti
Head-to-head: Tauson 1-0
Bronzetti has put up a 12-16 record in 2025, while Tauson has had the best season of her career, sitting at a career high ranking of No. 19 in the world. Interestingly, both players are looking for a first win at this tournament in their careers. Look for Tauson to breeze through into the third round, as long as she can play consistent tennis off her serve. The Dane won their only meeting late in 2022 on indoor hard courts.
Prediction: Tauson in 2
Jessica Pegula vs Maria Sakkari
Head-to-head: Pegula 6-5
These players are more accustomed to facing off in big semifinals or finals, but it’s been a tough road for Sakkari which has ultimately dropped her ranking heavily. However, there have been some bright spots lately for the Greek, and she currently sits around 40th in the 2025 WTA Race. Pegula is the defending champion in Canada, and should have the confidence and steady game to wear down Sakkari’s often inconsistent game. Sakkari is coming off a big three-set win over home favorite Carson Branstine, which might give her some extra confidence.
Prediction: Pegula in 3
