Second-round action at the ATP Toronto Masters will continue with the big guns continuing to enter the fray in Canada. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule, including Alex de Minaur vs Francisco Comesana and Frances Tiafoe vs Yosuke Watanuki. But who will secure their spot in the third round?
ATP Toronto Day 4 Predictions
Taylor Fritz vs Roberto Carballes Baena
Head-to-head: first meeting
Taylor Fritz’s season enters its most critical phase. The American is defending runner-up points at the US Open but didn’t have the perfect start to the swing in Washington, where he fell in the quarterfinals to an inspired Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. However, this looks like a good draw for the American. Roberto Carballes Baena does more damage on the slower surfaces, where his court-coverage earn the most reward and Fritz might not need to be at his absolute best level even if this match drags into uncomfortable territory. The world #4 has enough firepower to carry him through.
Prediction: Fritz in 2

Arthur Fils vs Pablo Carreno Busta
Head-to-head: Fils 1-0 Carreno Busta
Pablo Carreno Busta won his one and only Masters title at the ATP Toronto Masters three summers ago. A lot has changed since that triumph. Arhtur Fils emerged as one of the Tour’s most exciting young talents while the Spaniard suffered something of a fall from grace in the past year and a half due to an elbow tendonitis with age seemingly catching up to him. Ironically, it was the Frenchman who nursed an injury in the last two months. The back injury he sustained at the French Open proved to be a serious concern, and he withdrew from the entire grass-court swing. Still, Fils will dictate this match on his terms if he is fully healthy.
Prediction: Fils in 3
Lorenzo Sonego vs Bu Yunchaokete
Head-to-head: first meeting
Six wins from 15 matches on hard courts in 2025 is a modest return from Bu Yunchaokete. The Chinese player racked up 40 wins on the surface in a career-best 2024 season. Although he hasn’t hit such heights this season, Bu matches up to counter Lorenzo Sonego’s free-swinging play style. The Italian is a massive hitter and normally prefers quicker conditions, but his game can also unravel very fast when he’s forced to sustain his brilliance a little longer.
Prediction: Bu in 3

Stefanos Tsitsipas vs Christopher O’Connell
Head-to-head: first meeting
With just 18 wins from 31 matches in 2025, Stefanos Tsitsipas is on course for his worst season on the ATP Tour since 2017. His split from Goran Ivanisevic less than two months into their coaching partnership will only add to the uncertainty of his game ahead of his opening match in Toronto. The Greek’s talent is unquestionable, but he has lost a significant amount of self-belief over the past two months. And not even the Hopman Cup was able to rekindle his confidence. Christopher O’Connell hasn’t fared any better in recent weeks, but found his rhythm on serve in a dominant first-round win. The Australian has a real shot at a top 30 win with Tsitsipas clearly out of sorts.
Prediction: O’Connell in 3
