WTA Montreal Day 1 Predictions Including Bianca Andreescu vs Barbora Krejcikova

The opening day of the 2025 WTA National Bank Open in Montreal features a blockbuster first-round match between two Grand Slam champions. Home favorite Bianca Andreescu is seeking her first win in this tournament since 2022. She is one of a handful of Canadian wild cards who will take to the court in Montreal. Who will advance to the next round?

WTA Montreal Day 1 Predictions

Bernarda Pera vs Camila Osorio

Head-to-head: Osorio 1-1 Pera

Osorio has never taken part in this tournament before. Last year, she had an injury setback after Miami and was out of action for five months. It’s the niggling injuries that have hindered the Colombian from realizing her true potential at the Tour level. Bernarda Pera won a qualifying match against fellow American Madison Brengle to reach the main draw in Montreal. That win ended a three-match losing streak. And it will be Osorio who will attempt to bring to a halt her five-match winless run in this encounter. It’s all to play for in this one.
Prediction: Pera in 3

Jaqueline Cristian vs Marina Stakusic

Head-to-head: first meeting

Stakusic is one of seven home wild cards competing at the National Bank Open. This will be her second main draw appearance. She won on her debut in Toronto last season. However, the 20-year-old hasn’t played in two months, and her absence has delayed her breakthrough into the Top 100. Cristian is a seasoned competitor and is coming off a semifinal run in Iasi, where she lost to eventual champion Irina Camelia Begu. Stakusic’s form on hard courts has been patchy this season, and this match might have come a little bit earlier following her recent injury.
Prediction: Cristian in 2

Bianca Andreescu vs Barbora Krejcikova

Head-to-head: Krejcikova 1-0 Andreescu

Krejcikova is crawling back to high-level competition after an injury-marred 2025 season. She relinquished her Wimbledon title earlier this month and lost her Top 50 status. And it almost feels like she’s starting from scratch in this hard-court swing. Andreescu’s injury report card is not any better, but the Canadian has played more matches and built her rhythm at the Hopman Cup, where Canada won its first title in that competition. There’s not a lot to overthink here, and if it comes down to match toughness, Andreescu will have enough to outlast the two-time Grand Slam champion.
Prediction: Andreescu in 3
