Jil Teichmann in action ahead of the WTA Iasi.

WTA Iasi Final Prediction: Irina-Camelia Begu vs Jil Teichmann

It promises to be a superb WTA Iasi final. Home favourite Irina-Camelia Begu will receive vocal backing from the Romanian fans as she searches for a sixth WTA title. Jil Teichmann hopes to overcome the atmosphere and spoil the party by winning a third title. As always, we here at LWOT predict the outcome, but which player do you expect to triumph?

WTA Iasi Final Prediction

Irina-Camelia Begu vs Jil Teichmann

Head-to-head: Begu 3-1 Teichmann

Begu defeated Nao Hibino, Victoria Jimenez Kasintseva, Anna Siskova, and Jaqueline Cristian to reach this stage. She needed five match points to seal victory against Cristian, but eventually got through 6-4 6-4. Teichmann overcame Miriam Bianca Bulgaru, Maja Chwalinska, Simona Walter, and Sorana Cirstea. This will be Begu’s first final since the 2022 Palermo Open and Teichmann’s first since the 2021 Western and Southern Open in Cincinnati.

The Romanian won in three sets when she met Teichmann in Iasi two years ago. That memory and how the 34-year-old has used the crowd support throughout the week will give her confidence. However, I think Teichmann is ready to get her revenge in this encounter. The Swiss player’s level has been getting better with each match, and she played superbly to deny Sorana Cirstea a maiden WTA final on home soil.

Despite prevailing in straight sets, Begu’s match with Cristian was scrappier. She benefited from the No. 2 seed making several unforced errors after the players went off for a rain delay. If Teichmann produces a similar performance to the one against Cirstea, Begu has no chance of winning this without significantly raising her game.

Some players crack in big matches against home players. Although it was not the final, Teichmann’s composure against Cirstea convinced me that she can manage her emotions against Begu. The 28-year-old is predicted to win a third WTA title by triumphing over Begu in two competitive sets.

Prediction: Teichmann in 2
