ATP Bastad Semifinal Predictions

Jesper de Jong vs Camilo Ugo Carabelli

Head-to-head: de Jong 1-0 Carabelli

Jesper de Jong made a statement by taking down compatriot and second seed Tallon Griekspoor in the quarterfinals. He came back from a set down and showed impressive composure under pressure to win the second set tiebreak, going on to win the match in the decider. He served brilliantly and will be hard to stop if he can maintain that level for the remainder of this week. Camilo Ugo Carabelli, meanwhile, has once again shown his clay court prowess this week and is into his third tour-level semifinal of the season. However, he has not yet reached a final which is something he will be desperate to change here. But for all the quality of Carabelli’s defense and consistency might frustrate the Dutchman, de Jong’s power might just prove to be the difference.

Francisco Cerundolo vs Luciano Darderi

Head-to-head: Cerundolo 2-1 Darderi

Francisco Cerundolo did well to beat Damir Dzumhur, who almost turned around the match after getting after losing the first set 0-6. That win saw Cerundolo reach the ATP Bastad Open semifinals for the third year in a row and he will be aiming for his second final here. However, he faces another potentially stern challenge in the form of Luciano Darderi, who dispatched Sebastian Baez in the quarterfinals for the loss of only two games.

Darderi has found his best level in the past two matches, but he has already lost to Cerundolo twice this year. The Argentine will be the favourite on paper as a result, but Darderi has looked to be in a better rhythm off the ground so far this week. Expect him to pull this off and get his first top 20 win of the season.

Prediction: Darderi in 3
