Wimbledon Men’s Semifinal Prediction: Carlos Alcaraz vs Taylor Fritz

We have reached the final weekend of the Wimbledon Championships, and we should expect fireworks as the world’s best take to Centre Court at the All England Club. Two-time defending champion Carlos Alcaraz comes into this semifinal on a 23-match win streak. Not to be outdone, Taylor Fritz is 13-1 on the grass this season. Offering their insights and predictions on this match are Manan Mehta, Ateet Shrivastava, Jordan Reynolds, Yesh Ginsburg, and Shane Black. But who will reach championship Sunday?

Wimbledon Men’s Semifinal Prediction

Carlos Alcaraz vs Taylor Fritz

Head-to-Head: Alcaraz 2-0 (2024 Laver Cup: 6-2 7-5, 2023 Miami Masters: 6-4 6-2)

Manan
It’s going to be a battle between two excellent servers. Alcaraz may not hold a big-server reputation, but he has served incredibly well on crucial points this tournament. The serve is a crucial weapon for Fritz, and he hasn’t looked back since the first round scare with a good baseline power game, too. Alcaraz, however, holds a strong advantage due to his near-perfect movement on the court and his ability to create angles. He mixes his drop shots unbelievably well with his power baseline hits. Fritz will have to make sure he doesn’t drop any advantage that comes his way because Alcaraz has been great at pulling things back under his control.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 4

Carlos Alcaraz vs Taylor Fritz
Carlos Alcaraz played his best match of this year’s Championships and easily defeated Cameron Norrie in straight sets. He is in his third consecutive Wimbledon semifinal and will be the heavy favourite to advance to the finals. Taylor Fritz did well to hang on in the fourth set against Karen Khachanov and steal it in the tiebreak. This is the first semifinal for Fritz here and the second overall in Grand Slams. Fritz’s only advantage in this matchup is his serve, which Alcaraz’s block return can mitigate to some extent. The American No.1 will have to serve at a high rate and look to be the aggressor to have any chance in this match.

Jordan
Fritz might need the best performance of his career to have a chance against Alcaraz. The American’s more complete game compared to a few years ago gives him some hope. But I just cannot see any other outcome than Alcaraz reaching another final. His defensive skills will make it very challenging for Fritz to hit through him consistently without costly unforced errors.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 4

Yesh
I really want to pick Fritz in this. He is generally playing effortlessly, and he has the mix of power and variety to take out the two-time defending champ. Alcaraz needs to raise his level to win this match. History tells us he will, but he hasn’t quite found it yet this tournament.
Prediction: Fritz in 4

Shane
The two-time defending champion is the decided favorite in this match, but Fritz has a gear on the grass that could challenge the Spaniard. Over the last few seasons, he has consistently risen to the occasion in important matches and will not be intimidated by the moment. My concern for the American is his ability to win points with variety. We know Alcaraz has as many tools in his bag as any player in the sport. If Fritz wants to compete, not only will he need a terrific performance from the service line, but he must find ways to win points other than baseline exchanges. Is there a path to a Fritz victory? Yes, but trusting him to beat the most in-form player in the sport is not something I am willing to do.
Prediction: Alcaraz in 5
