Emma Navarro Wimbledon

WTA Wimbledon Best Bets Including Veronika Kudermetova vs Emma Navarro

It’s time for second-round action at the WTA Wimbledon Championships. The stunning upset so far at the tournament was Coco Gauff losing in the first round. With many high-profile matches scheduled, could more upsets be on offer? Here are more of my best bets. Tell me in the comments if you agree.

WTA Wimbledon Open

Tauson – Kalinskaya: Time 12:00

H2H: 1-0

Anna Kalinskaya enters Wimbledon hoping to improve upon her round-of-16 finish last year. Unfortunately, 2025 hasn’t been kind to her. At 10-12 overall, Kalinskaya has dealt with three different injury periods, including her latest in late May. Tauson, on the other hand, has had a solid year, including a tournament victory and another runner-up. Her grass season has been off to a solid start, as well. Kalinskaya has had two matches on grass, one three-set tiebreak loss, and another two-set tiebreak win. Their only head-to-head was a 2024 Rome WTA second-round match, which Kaliskaya won.

Best Bet to Make

Tauson is a decent favorite for this match, and I agree. The Dane has simply had a better flow to her game than Kalinskaya, as of late. If Tauson can reliably work her serve and stay consistent with the forehand, it shouldn’t be a problem for her to put away Kalinskaya early and often. Tauson’s best approach is to deny Kalinskaya the chance to get her serve working for her early. If she takes that away, it will allow her to dictate where on the court the match will be won.

That being said, Tauson winning is a value bet for sure.

Kudermetova – Navarro: Time 12:00

H2H: 1-0

Veronika Kudermetova will be hoping to get out of the second round at WTA Wimbledon for the first time in her career when she meets Emma Navarro. The only meeting between the two is a 2021 second-round meeting in Charleston, won by Kudermetova in straight sets. Navarro has come a long way since then, as that was only her first season as a professional. Kudermetova has been playing professionally since 2011.

Best Bet to Make

While I absolutely agree with Navarro as the winner, I do think the books are being a little too hard on Kudermetova. At 2.48 to Navarro’s 1.62, they seem pretty confident that Navarro is on a different level than Kudermetova right now, and I’m not as enthusiastic as they are. I think it’s a little telling that they’re offering Navarro 2:0 at 2.30, but Navarro straight is almost .19 higher. Navarro is only 5-5 in her last ten. Kudermetova is 6-4, so make of that what you will. Can Navarro reach the quarterfinals again this year like she did last year? I’m inclined to think she’s going to beat Kudermetova, but I don’t think she will make it back to the quarterfinals.

That being said, Kudermetova winning is a value bet for sure.

Baptiste – Mboko: Time 12:00

H2H: 0-0

While this will be the first meeting between Hailey Baptiste and Victoria Mboko, it surely won’t be the last between the American and the Canadian. At just 18, Mboko will be one of the youngest players at the WTA Wimbledon. It will also be her first time playing the Championships. Baptiste made the qualifiers last year, but didn’t advance. Mboko enters the match with only two losses in her last ten matches, while Baptiste is 6-4.

Best Bet to Make

The books favor Mboko, and I’m assuming it’s because of her current form. Mboko is only 3-1 on grass in her career, but Baptiste is only 5-5. Neither woman has a ton of experience on grass, but Mboko is on a different level this year in terms of overall play. The youngster is a staggering 45-7 in 2025, and has won five out of the first six tournaments she played this year. If you thought it was a fluke, then she added another final in a major tournament in May. Mboko is the favorite for a reason; I do not doubt her.

That being said, Mboko winning is a value bet for sure.
