Barbora Krejcikova Shares Her Favorite Career Win–And It’s Not Wimbledon

In 2024, during a rain delay at Wimbledon, Barbora Krejcikova hosted a Q&A session on X (formerly Twitter) — and went on to win the tournament. Twelve months later, whether out of superstition or simply to stay connected with fans, the Czech player did it again, offering some fun and thoughtful responses. Krejcikova is one of the most active tennis players on social media and regularly engages with fans, which probably explains why she received around 500 questions ahead of this year’s British Slam.

Returning as Champion and Club Member

This year’s edition of Wimbledon holds extra meaning for Krejcikova: she returns not only as the defending champion but also as a member of the All-England Club. Asked how that feels, she replied:

“It’s glorious. I mean, it’s my favorite part about winning Wimbledon.”

When it comes to performing on the biggest stages–like she did last year–Krejcikova joked:

“I know the tennis gods are watching, and I’m trying to stay on their good side.”

Fans were curious how she celebrated her Wimbledon triumph.

“I treated myself to a sip of champagne and finally some calm sleep,” she said.

As for the pressure of defending her title this year, Krejcikova answered with dry humor:

Superstitions and Grass Courts

Asked about pre-tournament rituals or traditions at a Slam, she explained:

“They usually build up on their own, right? I don’t do anything special before the tournament, but if I start winning, I keep doing the same thing over and over because I’m superstitious.”

Krejcikova also shared her thoughts on playing on grass, pointing out its unpredictable nature:

“One moment it’s tennis, the next it’s dodgeball with trust issues. But it also makes it beautiful.”

Favorite Match? Not What You’d Expect

One fan asked:

“Do you have a favorite match — not necessarily your biggest win, but one that felt personally meaningful?”

Krejcikova answered:

“The Ostrava final against Iga.”

Naturally, a follow-up came:

“Even more than the Wimbledon final?”

And the Czech stood firm:

On Fellow Players

Krejcikova also spoke about other tennis stars. She complimented Carlos Alcaraz’s dancing skills (the two shared a celebratory dance last year after both winning Wimbledon), calling him “clutch.” Asked about Serena Williams, she said:

“It would have been an honor” to play her.

Her dream opponent from the past?

Justine Henin. I looked up to her growing up.”

Krejcikova named the 2024 Madrid final between Iga Swiatek and Aryna Sabalenka as the best match she’s watched live from the stands.

When asked about her goals for the season, she kept it simple:

“Stay healthy.”

A fan also asked if she would consider playing doubles with Coco Gauff. Her reply?

“Are you in?” — tagging the American star directly.

Rapid-Fire Q&A

In the final part of the session, Krejcikova answered some quick-fire questions:

Toughest opponent? Ash Barty

Go-to show right now? Orange Is the New Black

Biggest fear? Snakes

Favorite cities? Dubai and Prague

Shot to improve? Serve

If not a tennis player? Either a doctor or a flight attendant

Bonus: Clay or Grass?

Krejcikova has won both Roland Garros and Wimbledon, but when asked which surface she prefers, she had no hesitation:

“Grass always and forever. Seriously, I don’t know how to play on clay anymore.”

She added with a laugh:

“That was the last time I knew how to play on clay,” referring to her French Open title.
