Australian Open Day 2 Women’s Predictions Including Danielle Collins vs Daria Snigur

The fans at the Australian Open should have plenty to enjoy on day two. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for all 28 matches, including Jessica Pegula vs Maya Joint, Naomi Osaka vs Caroline Garcia, Coco Gauff vs Sofia Kenin, Mayar Sherif vs Dayana Yastremska, Victoria Azarenka vs Lucia Bronzetti, and Iga Swiatek vs Katerina Siniakova. Who will reach the second round?

Australian Open Day 2 Predictions

Daria Snigur vs Danielle Collins

Ilemona: Danielle Collins is favoured to defeat Daria Snigur. Collins’ strong hard-court record gives her the edge, but a winless run in six matches for Collins will give Snigur the confidence to push for a win. Expect a drawn out contest with the American ultimately prevailing.

Prediction: Collins in 3

Jordan: Collins will hope to recapture her form from the first half of last year after falling away in the final months. Snigur is a tricky opponent who will likely make the American work. Overall, Collins’ firepower should still be enough.

Prediction: Collins in 2

Andreas: Collins has kickstarted her surprising return to tennis this year after an initial retirement announcement in 2024. She lost her opening match of the season to Ons Jabeur, but she should be confident here given her success at the Australian Open over the years. Snigur did well to qualify, but the Ukrainian hasn’t won a WTA tour-level match since Wimbledon.

Anhelina Kalinina vs Ons Jabeur

Ilemona: Ons Jabeur’s creativity and all-court skills could give her the edge against Anhelina Kalinina, especially if she controls the pace with her drop shots and variety. However, Kalinina’s baseline consistency and defensive abilities could make her a tricky opponent. Expect a competitive match, but Jabeur’s experience in big moments may see her prevail.

Prediction: Jabeur in 3

Jordan: While Jabeur has struggled to recover mentally from losing the 2023 Wimbledon final, this is a good matchup for her. Kalinina thrives when she has a consistent rhythm in the rallies. Jabeur’s variety can prevent her from getting that.

Prediction: Jabeur in 2

Andreas: Jabeur is back on the WTA Tour, and her level of play has looked promising. This will be a tough opener for the three-time Grand Slam finalist, as Kalinina clinched a couple of upsets to reach the semifinals of Brisbane. Jabeur should have the talent and skill to win this, but Kalinina will make this close.

Prediction: Jabeur in 3

Elina Svitolina vs Sorana Cirstea

Ilemona: Elina Svitolina is the overwhelming favorite for good reason, Cirstea hasn’t won a match since Rome last year and she hasn’t made it past the first round at the Australian Open since 2022. She faces an uphill task upsetting Svitolina here. Expect the Ukrainian to make easy work of this encounter.

Prediction: Svitolina in 2

Jordan: Both players  recently returned from long injuries. Cirstea’s aggressive style can threaten most players when it clicks, but Svitolina’s defensive skills are well equipped to handle it.

Prediction: Svitolina in 2

Andreas: Another exciting name returns to tennis, with Cirstea recently playing in Adelaide after her 2024 season ended after Wimbledon. Svitolina also ended her 2024 season early, though later in the year. Cirstea has a powerful game that often peaks in Grand Slams, so this could potentially end in an upset if the Romanian can play consistent tennis and serve well. Look for the Ukrainian to win in three.

Belina Bencic vs Jelena Ostapenko

Ilemona: Belinda Bencic’s solid track record in Melbourne, combined with her defensive skills and consistency, could give her the edge against Jelena Ostapenko, despite a mixed start to her maternity comeback. Ostapenko’s aggressive shot-making and history of strong Australian Open performances make her a dangerous opponent, even after a shaky start to the season. Expect a tight contest, but Bencic’s form and past success at this venue may give her the slight advantage.

Prediction: Bencic in 2

Jordan: Confidently predicting Ostapenko’s matches is almost impossible. Bencic likes to be aggressive, but she is not as ultra-attacking as the Latvian. The former Olympic gold medallist’s greater solidity might prove the difference.

Prediction: Bencic in 3

Andreas: Bring the popcorn for this matchup — there should be big hitting and winners from both sides of the court. It’s been a tough start to 2025 for Ostapenko, while Bencic should be motivated during her comeback run. The last time the two played, the Swiss upset Ostapenko in the 2020 Australian Open.

Prediction: Bencic in 3
