Some exciting matches will be played on day 2 of the ATP ASB Classic in Auckland. Two-time finalist Cameron Norrie will be in action alongside many young talents like Jakub Mensik, Luca Nardi, and Flavio Cobolli. As always, we at LWOT will offer our predictions for every match on the slate. But which players will get the win?
ATP Auckland Day 2 Predictions
Jan-Lennard Struff vs Yunchaokete Bu
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Jan-Lennard Struff will be playing his first match of the season and has got a tough one. Yunchaokete is a serious talent and lost a very close match to Nuno Borges in Hong Kong. The Chinese player was exceptional on hard courts in 2024 in all competitions. Both these players hit big which makes this a brilliant encounter. Struff has the better serve but his level might be inconsistent as it’s his first match of the season. I am going with Bu.
Prediction: Bu in 3
Jakub Mensik vs Alexandre Muller
Head-to-Head: Mensik 1-0 Muller
Jakub Mensik reached the quarterfinal in Brisbane last week and will look to make another deep run in Auckland. Alexandre Muller is coming into this tournament on the back of winning his first ATP title. Muller showed incredible fightback in every match he played in Hong Kong, winning all of his matches after losing the opening set. However, that must have taken a lot out of him and Mensik will take advantage of that.
Prediction: Mensik in 2
Flavio Cobolli vs Luca Nardi
Head-to-Head: Cobolli 1-1 Nardi
Flavio Cobolli was impressive at the United Cup in two of his three matches and is one of the contenders for the title this week. He will face his compatriot Luca Nardi in the first round and that can be tricky. Nardi survived two three-setters in the qualifiers but will need to play at a much higher level to beat his countrymen. It should be an exciting contest with Cobolli getting the victory.
Prediction: Cobolli in 2
Cameron Norrie vs Facundo Diaz Acosta
Head-to-Head: Norrie 2-0 Diaz Acosta
2024 was a bad year for a player of Cameron Norrie’s quality and he has already made a positive start in 2025. Reaching the quarterfinals in Hong Kong must have felt good and he can build on that, this week. Norrie’s fantastic record at the ASB Classic will also help him. Facundo Diaz Acosta is through to the main draw as a lucky loser. He can be a tricky player, especially on clay. But his record on this surface is awful and Norrie will have an easier time dealing with his lefty serve. Norrie to win comfortably is my prediction.
Prediction: Norrie in 2
