Nitto ATP Finals Turin Doubles Group A
Bolelli/Vavassori – Krawietz/Puetz: 13.11.2024 18:00 CEST
H2H: 2-1
Bolelli and Vavassori have won three of their last five matches. In their last tournament before the ATP Finals, Bolelli and Vavassori lost their opening match in Paris against Glasspool and Pavlasek in straight sets. The Italians were not mentally there, and it seemed like they wanted to save their energy for the Finals. Here in Turin, Simone and Andrea defeated Bopanna and Ebden in straight sets. This time, the energy was different, and it was great from the very start. Andrea and Simone did not offer any breakpoints, and served great throughout the whole match. They were also great behind the baseline, hitting 18 winners with only 4 unforced errors. Just a couple of weeks ago, Bolelli and Vavassori won the title in Beijing, winning against Heliovaara and Patten in the final. So far this season, the Italians have played in two Grand Slam finals, and finished as runner-ups in both of them. Unfortunately for them, Bolelli and Vavassori crumbled under pressure in the final. Firstly, they failed to win the Australian Open, losing against Bopanna and Ebden in the final. After that, at the French Open, the Italians fell short against Arevalo and Pavic in the final.
Krawietz and Puetz have won four of their last five matches. The last tournament they played before the ATP Finals was in Antwerp around a month ago, where they retired mid-match against Middelkoop and Molteni. Tim Puetz sustained a knee injury, which meant the end for the Germans. Since then, both of them took some time to heal and rest for the last tournament of the season. Their last big result was at the US Open, where they reached the final, losing against Purcell and Thompson in straight sets. Other than that, Krawietz and Puetz underperformed at the Grand Slam level. Here in Turin, Krawietz and Puetz won their opening match against Arevalo and Pavic in easy straight sets. The Germans offered and saved two breakpoints, and played great under pressure. So far this season, Tim and Kevin have only won one ATP title, which was on home soil in Hamburg on clay. Being Germans, Krawietz and Puetz had their biggest results on the slower surfaces. They are yet to show their best tennis on the faster indoor courts such as this one.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Krawietz and Puetz are the slight underdogs. In their last head-to-head meeting, the Germans defeated the Italians at the US Open, under similar conditions. However, earlier this season, Bolelli and Vavassori defeated Tim and Kevin at the Australian Open in straight sets. We believe that Bolelli and Vavassori are the better doubles partners on the indoor courts. We expect them to dominate from the very start and win another match.
That being said, Bolelli/Vavassori winning is a value bet.
