Benjamin Bonzi Australian Open

Few would have predicted the ATP Metz final matchup at the start of the week. Cameron Norrie and Benjamin Bonzi have endured many challenging moments in 2024, but they will meet for the title in Metz. We at LWOT give our prediction and analysis, but which player do you think will win the title?

Cameron Norrie vs Benjamin Bonzi

Head-to-head: First meeting

Norrie worked hard to reach the final. He battled through three-set matches against Roberto Carballes Baena, Luca Van Assche, and Zizou Bergs before beating Corentin Moutet in two sets. Bonzi’s run to the final is even more surprising because he had to come through qualifying. In the main draw, he defeated the recent European Open champion Roberto Bautista Agut, two-time French Open runner-up Casper Ruud, Quentin Halys, and Alex Michelsen.

Expect plenty of long rallies in the final between two men who do not possess overwhelming firepower from the baseline. Bonzi’s craftiness and variety are slightly better than Norrie’s, but the Briton’s consistency from the baseline is a little better. The final will probably be very tight. Bonzi might raise his level even further in front of a home crowd, but Norrie has played in partisan atmospheres before and usually deals with them pretty well.

This feels like a 50-50 matchup. Overall, the conditions give Bonzi the slightest of edges. The indoor hardcourt in Metz suits players who can mix up their game, as the Frenchman has shown throughout the week. It is pivotal not to allow Norrie to get into a rhythm since he can grind down opponents when feeling comfortable. Bonzi is backed to disrupt Norrie enough and win a three-set final to secure the first ATP title of his career.
Prediction: Bonzi in 3
