ATP 250 Belgrade 2 1/8-Finals
Altmaier – O’Connell: 06.11.2024 Time TBA
H2H: 1-1
Daniel Altmaier has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Basel, Altmaier successfully qualified for the main-draw tournament. However, he fell short in the opening main-round draw against Fils in straight sets. Here in Belgrade, Daniel had a favorable first round draw. He defeated Darderi in straight sets. Daniel offered no breakpoints, and had an outstanding serving performance. Last year around this time, the German played in Metz, where he lost his opening match against Valkusz in straight sets.
Christopher O´Connell has lost three of his last five matches. Last week in Paris, Christopher lost his opening match against Khachanov in three tight sets. Here in Belgrade, O´Connell dominated in his first round match against Kecmanovic, winning in easy straight sets. Christopher offered and saved all five breakpoints, and was great under pressure. Last year around this time, Christopher played in Sofia, where he lost in the second round of the tournament against Ofner.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, this should be a almost 50-50 match, and we do not agree with that. O´Connell was dominant in his opening match, and played great tennis. On the other hand, Altmaier had a favorable draw, which is the main reason why he got past the first round. This has been a disappointing season for Daniel.
That being said, O´Connell winning is a value bet.

Shapovalov – Borges: 06.11.2024 Time TBA
H2H: first meeting
Denis Shapovalov has won four of his last five matches. Last week in Basel, Denis reached the quarterfinals, where he was stopped by Mpetshi Perricard in three tight sets as we predicted. Here in Belgrade, Denis successfully qualified for the main-draw tournament. In the first main-draw round, Shapovalov defeated Fucsovics in three tight sets. After losing the first set 6-7, Denis stayed calm, and turned the match around. Last year, around this time, Shapovalov was injured, and skipped that part of the season.
Nuno Borges has lost three of his last five matches. His last win was over two months ago, when he defeated Mensik at the US Open. After that, Borges fought with an injury. Last week in Paris, Nuno lost his opening match against Tabilo in three tight sets. Borges is still battling with his wrist injury, so we are not sure if he is going to be 100% ready for this matchup. Last year, around this time, Borges played at the challenger tour level, where he has not had much success.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Shapovalov is the favorite in this matchup, and we agree with that. Denis has already won three matches this week in Belgrade, so we expect him to be ready for his 1/8-final encounter against Borges. Nuno, on the other hand, has been winless for the last two months, so we believe that he will struggle on the court tomorrow.
That being said, Shapovalov winning in straight sets is a value bet.
