Iga Swiatek has confirmed her participation for her country at next month’s Billie Jean King Cup Finals. Poland is one of 12 nations set to headline the 61st edition of the team competition in the Finals.

All ties will occur from November 13 to 20 at the Martin Carpena Arena in Malaga, Spain. Poland’s team captain, David Celt, initially omitted the World No. 2 from selection.

However, Swiatek’s announcement on her official X account indicates she has accepted a late call-up and is ready to return to the fold to extend her seven-match undefeated streak at the BJK Cup.

Swiatek to play at Billie Jean King Cup Finals

She wrote,

“See you in Malaga! I’m happy to announce that I will play in the BJK Cup Finals. I’m glad that I’ll play for my country and proudly represent Poland. Together with Team Poland, we will give our best on the court. I hope you’ll watch and support us. See you soon.”

Swiatek gives Poland a major boost at Billie Jean King Cup Finals

Swiatek missed last year’s Billie Jean King Cup Finals because of scheduling complications, as she was competing in the 2023 WTA Finals in Cancun, Mexico. She would later give a conclusive explanation of her absence, citing mental and physical fatigue as primary causes.

Poland will play tournament hosts Spain in what looks to be the pick of first-round matches, with the winner braced to face Czechia in the quarterfinal.

Swiatek will join countrywomen Magdalena Frech, Magda Linette, Maja Chwalinska, and Katarzyna Kawa in the official setup. The five-time Grand Slam champion was instrumental in securing her country’s place at the Finals after winning two singles rubbers over 2022 champions Switzerland in April.

If selected, Swiaetk will most likely play top-ranked Spaniard Paula Badosa in singles in what is expected to be one of the most competitive matches at the tournament.

Swiatek has been out of action since losing to Jessica Pegula in the US Open quarterfinal. She is not scheduled to appear in WTA tournaments before the WTA Finals.

The season-ending championships will run from November 2 to 9. Swiatek will have ample time to travel to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, which will play host for this year’s WTA Finals.
