Taylor Fritz has won four of his last five matches. Last week in Tokyo, Fritz was upset by Fils in the opening round. Here in Shanghai, Taylor won his opening match against Atmane in two tight tiebreaks. Both players served greatly throughout the whole match, losing their serve only once in the match. However, Fritz was a better player under pressure, and won deservedly in straight sets. In the third round, Taylor won against Watanuki in straight sets. Fritz was a better player throughout the whole match, and won easily in straight sets. After that, in the 1/8-Finals, Taylor defeated Rune in straight sets. Rune won only three games in the entire match, and had no answer for Taylor’s game. Fritz offered and saved only one breakpoint. Today, in the quarterfinals, Fritz won comfortably against David Goffin in straight sets. Taylor lost his serve only once at the beginning of the first set. Other than that, Fritz served well. Fritz loves to play under fast conditions such as this one. He is yet to lose a set this week. Last year in Shanghai, Fritz lost in the third round against Schwartzman in three tight sets.

According to the bookies, Novak is the favorite in this matchup. Both players showed solid tennis this week. Taylor loves to play under these conditions, and we believe that he will have a decent chance to finally win against Novak. In their last nine encounters, Fritz had his biggest chance this year at the Australian Open. We believe that Taylor will be fully confident coming into this match, and keep this match tight.
