Daniil Medvedev in action ahead of the French Open.

ATP Masters 1000 Shanghai 1/8-Finals

Tsitsipas – Medvedev: 09.10.2024 07:00 CEST
H2H: 4-9

Stefanos Tsitsipas has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Tokyo, Stefanos lost in the first round, where he was upset by Michelsen in three sets as we predicted. Here in Shanghai, Stefanos defeated Nishikori in his opening match in straight sets. In the third round, Stefanos defeated Muller in straight sets as we predicted. Tsitsipas has been struggling with his form this season, which led to him being outside the top 10. Last year in Shanghai, Stefanos reached the third round, where he lost against Humbert in three tight sets.

Daniil Medvedev has won four of his last five matches. Last week in Beijing, Medvedev reached the semifinals, where he lost against Alcaraz in straight sets as we predicted. Daniil has been struggling with his form recently, but his recent result in Beijing might give him some self-confidence back. Here in Shanghai, Medvedev defeated Seyboth Wild in his opening match in tight straight sets. After that, in the third round, Daniil won against Arnaldi in three tight sets. Last year in Shanghai, Medvedev reached the third round, when he fell short against Korda in straight sets.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, Stefanos is the underdog in this matchup. Daniil said that the balls are slower than usual, and that he is struggling to generate power. On the other hand, Tsitsipas won both of his matches easily. We believe that Stefanos will have a decent chance and keep this match tight.

That being said, Tsitsipas covering the games handicap is a value bet.

Value bet/ the best odds: Stefanos Tsitsipas +2.5 games handicap @1.91 @bet365

Fritz – Rune: 09.10.2024 12:30 CEST
H2H: 1-1

Taylor Fritz has won three of his last five matches. Last week in Tokyo, Fritz was upset by Fils in the opening round. Here in Shanghai, Taylor won his opening match against Atmane in two tight tiebreaks. Both players served greatly throughout the whole match, losing their serve only once in the match. In the third round, Taylor won against Watanuki in straight sets. Last year in Shanghai, Fritz lost in the third round against Schwartzman in three tight sets.

Holger Rune has won four of his last five matches. Last week in Tokyo, Holger reached the semifinals, where he was upset by Fils in two tiebreaks. Here in Shanghai, Holger defeated Berrettini in the opening match, after spending two hours on the court. In the third round, Holger won against Lehecka in straight sets as we predicted. Rune is looking for a solid result this week, to get closer to the top 10 in the rankings. Last year in Shanghai, Rune played his worst tennis. He lost against Nakashima 6-0 6-2 in the opening round, and looked terrible on the court.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, Rune is the underdog in this matchup. Both players love to play under these conditions. We believe that this will be a very tight match, that could go either way.

That being said, Rune covering the games handicap is a value bet.
