World #1, Iga Swiatek has decided to part ways with her coach Tomasz Wiktorowski after three years of almost relentless success together. Swiatek won many big titles including four Grand Slams and reached the #1 ranking with Wiktorowski. She informed this via an Instagram post: “After 3 years of the greatest achievements in my career, together with my coach Tomasz Wiktorowski we decided to part ways”. Swiatek has been the best player in the world in the last three years and a lot of credit goes to Wiktorowski.
But every great partnership has to end, and this feels like the right time for the French Open champion. Wiktorowski did great in making her the best version of herself with what she does best. But maybe it was time to move forward. Bring in other elements. This is promising because it shows that Swiatek wants more from her game and wants to be a contender on all surfaces. She is the best version of herself but someone who can help her become a better player is what’s going to get her to win more non-clay slams/titles.
Swiatek is ready to take the Next Step, Skips Wuhan
Due to the important changes in her team, Swiatek has decided to skip the upcoming WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, China. This makes it the second consecutive WTA 1000 tournament that she has skipped after Beijing and gives a chance to Aryna Sabalenka to close down the points for year-end-#1. Swiatek also mentioned that she is in talks with non-polish coaches from abroad and is ready to take the next step in her career.
Despite being world No.1 for many weeks, she didn’t have the best results on faster surfaces as consistently as she would have hoped for. Maybe she wants to add something to her game to get herself out of trouble against excellent ball strikers on fast surfaces. It will be interesting to see who her new coach will be and how that partnership works.
