According to the bookies, Fognini is the slight underdog in this matchup. Even though he lost both of his matches on the Asian swing, Fabio showed solid tennis. On the other hand, Darderi is in terrible form, and has not had any results on the hard courts this season.

Lorenzo Sonego has lost his last three matches. His last win was in Winston-Salem where he won the title, winning against Michelsen in the final. Sonego has played two Asian swing tournaments in the last couple of weeks, and lost in the opening round in both of them. Last week in Beijing, Mannarino defeated Sonego in the first round as we predicted. Last year in Shanghai, Lorenzo reached the third round, where he lost against Jarry in straight sets.
Denis Shapovalov has won four of his last five matches. The Canadian is slowly getting better and returning to his best days. Here in Shanghai, Shapovalov successfully qualified throughout the qualifying tournament. In the first qualifying round, Denis defeated Hsu in straight sets. Today, in the final qualifying round, Denis lost the first set against Shimabukuro. However, in the second set, Shimabukuro retired due to an injury. Shapovalov tends to play his best tennis at the Masters level. He is looking for a solid result this week to get back into the top 100 in the rankings.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Shapovalov is the slight favorite in this matchup. We believe that Denis will come into this matchup fully confident, considering his recent wins in the qualifying tournament. Lorenzo never had any success at the Masters tournaments. We believe that Shapovalov will be a better player tomorrow, and win this match easily.
That being said, Shapovalov winning is a value bet.
