ATP 500 Beijing semifinals
Sinner – By: 01.10.2024 13:00 CEST
H2H: first meeting
Jannik Sinner has won 15 straight matches, and holds the number 1 ranking. After winning the US Open title, winning against Fritz in the finals, as we predicted, Jannik took some time off to celebrate and rest for the upcoming Asian swing. Here in Beijing, Jannik defeated Jarry in the opening round in three sets. After he lost the first set 4-6, Jannik stepped up his level, and turned the match around. In the 1/8-Finals, Sinner defeated Safiullin in three tight sets as we predicted. Once again, Jannik struggled in the first set, and looked rusty at the beginning of the match, and once again, Sinner turned the match around. Jannik served well in the second and third sets. Today, in the quarterfinals, Sinner defeated Lehecka in straight sets as we predicted. Jannik won the first set easily 6-2. However, in the second set, both players were great on serve. Sinner even had to save consecutive set points in the tiebreak. This has been the most successful season for the young Italian, who became just the fourth player to win two hardcourt Grand Slams in a single season. Jannik is the defending champion here in Beijing.
Yunchaokete Bu has won four of his last five matches. Bu was granted a Wild Card in Hangzhou last week, where he reached the semifinals, losing against Zhang in straight sets as we predicted. With that result, Bu became a top 100 player. Here in Beijing, Wu upset Shang in three tight sets. Shang looked tired on the court, so Bu took that chance, and turned the match around. In the 1/8-Finals, Bu defeated Musetti in straight sets as we predicted. The Chinese talent won the first set 6-2 without any problems. However, in the second set, Bu almost blew out his 4-1 lead with the double break. Today, in the quarterfinals, Bu upset Rublev in straight sets. This was the biggest win of his young career. Yunchaokete was great under pressure, saving all four breakpoints. With this result, Bu just became the first Chinese player to reach the semifinals here in Beijing, and the lowest ranked player ever to do it as well. With the recent results, Bu has climbed up the rankings, and is now aiming to get into the top 60. So far this season, Bu has spent a lot of time playing at the challenger tour level. He has already won three challenger titles this season on the hard courts, and played two finals as well. The young Chinese is one of the biggest Chinese talents right now.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Jannik is the big favorite in this matchup, and we agree with that. Sinner struggled at the beginning of the tournament. However, in his last match, Jannik showed his best tennis, and we expect him to continue in that fashion. Bu is playing his best tennis right now, but we still think that he is far away from Jannik´s level.
That being said, Sinner covering the games handicap is a value bet.
