WTA Beijing Day 2 Predictions
Zarina Diyas vs Mananchaya Sawangkaew
Head-to-Head: Diyas 2-0 Sawangkaew
Both players came through qualifying against formidable opponents, Diyas in more than convincing fashion, getting a bagel set against both Heather Watson and Rebeka Masarova. She leads in the head to head and her form should put more than enough wind in her sails to see her across the finish lines here.
Prediction: Diyas in 2
Xinyu Gao vs Sara Sorribes Tormo
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Sorribes Tormo played through qualifying and got two confidence boosting wins for her troubles. Her last outing ended in the quarterfinals in Monastir to the eventual finalist Sramkova in three tight sets. Sorribes Tormo has the form and momentum to stake yet another deep run and Gao, even with a noisy crowd behind her will not have enough to test that prospect.
Prediction: Sorribes Tormo in 2
Yexin Ma vs Irina-Camelia Begu
Head-to-Head: First meeting
While the vast majority of the tour turned their attention to the indoor hard courts of Europe and Asia, Begu took a detour to the clay courts of her home tournament in Bucharest on the back of a clay court title in Montreux, Switzerland. Her first round defeat in Bucharest might have been just what she needed to come into Asia better rested. Although Begu plays her best tennis on clay, she should have enough to prevail here against a player still cutting her teeth on the main tour.
Prediction: Begu in 2
Viktorija Golubic vs Xiyu Wang
Head-to-Head: Golubic 2-1 Wang
Xiyu Wang registered her first win in this match-up last week at the Thailand Open and will come into this match with the belief that she can repeat the same here. There isn’t much separating them on paper and the added advantage of the crowd support should boost Wang’s chances further. Golubic knows what it takes to beat her opponent and overcoming the underdog status would not be far from the cards for her. The match will be decided on Wang’s racquet as she has too much going in her favor at the moment.
Prediction: Wang in 3
