The WTA Thailand Open in Hua Hin has already lost its top seed, Dayana Yastremska in the first round. The last four matches of the second round will take place on Thursday and will feature #3 seed, Xinyu Wang and #4 seed, Magda Linette. As always, we here at LWOT will offer our predictions for every match on the slate for Day 4. But who will advance?
WTA Hua Hin Day 4 Predictions
Mai Hontama vs Lanlana Tararudee
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Mai Hontama upset the top seed, Dayana Yastremksa, in the first round to win her third tour-level match this year. It was the biggest win for Hontama in terms of ranking. Hontama did a great job in defense which rattled Yastremska. Lanlana Tararudee put up a dominating performance in the first round to win the first tour-level match of her career. Tararudee is a local talent and will look to win more matches at the Thailand Open this week. This is a close one to call but I’ll back Hontama.
Prediction: Hontama in 3
Varvara Gracheva vs Jana Fett
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Varvara Gracheva lost just five games in her first-round match to set up this meeting with Jana Fett. Gracheva has not had luck with draws recently so this is a great opportunity for her to showcase her tennis and win consecutive matches. Jana Fett has won four main draw matches this year which is her best outcome. However, if she can improve her second serve and limit the double faults, she might win more matches. I can’t see her troubling Gracheva currently.
Prediction: Gracheva in 2
Xinyu Wang vs Rebeka Masarova
Head-to-Head: First meeting
This is possibly the best chance for Xinyu Wang to win a WTA title and she has started brilliantly. A strong serving performance and clutch while saving break points ensured her an easy win against Mayar Sherif. Rebeka Masarova can be a tricky opponent but she isn’t in her best form. Wang likes playing here and I expect her to win this.
Prediction: Wang in 3
Magda Linette vs Rebecca Sramkova
Head-to-Head: First meeting
Magda Linette has lost half of her matches since winning the Prague Open in late July. This is a great opportunity for her to get back to winning ways and make a deep run. She was clinical in the first round but Rebecca Sramkova will be a much tougher test. Sramkova reached the final of the Jasmin Open last week where she played the best tennis of her career. However, It will be hard to replicate the same level again for the Slovak.
Prediction: Linette in 3
