The first half of second-round action at the WTA Hua Hin event will take place on Wednesday, featuring a clash between second-seeded Kateřina Siniaková and former French Open semifinalist Nadia Podoroska. LWOT predicts all the upcoming matches below.
WTA Hua Hin Day 3 Predictions
Laura Siegemund vs Xiyu Wang
Head-to-head: Siegemund 1-0
In almost opposite circumstances, the pair played once in 2022; the match was in French Open qualifying on the slow clay courts in which Siegemund won 6-3 6-3. With the faster conditions in Thailand, Wang should like her chances more, as she has a powerful game that should work well against Siegemund’s variety. Both players performed well in their opening match, but Wang played this event when it was last held in 2024, and should win this.
Prediction: Wang in 2
Gao Xinyu vs Arianne Hartono
Head-to-head: First meeting
This match will provide an amazing opportunity for either player to reach a WTA tour-level quarterfinal. Hartono rebounded from a tough US Open qualifying loss to stun seventh-seeded Moyuka Uchijima 6-1 6-1, while Xinyu claimed her first ever WTA tour-level victory with a straight-sets win on Tuesday. Both players will like their chances, especially as they are ranked five spots away from each other, but Hartono’s form may be a bit more convincing after winning so easily. Look for Hartono to win in three sets.
Prediction: Hartono in 2
Katie Volynets vs Tamara Zidansek
Head-to-head: Volynets 1-0
Zidansek battled well in her first-round match to snatch her second WTA tour-level match win of the season, but Volynets should be a tougher task for Zidansek. Volynets’ game best applies to hard courts, and Zidansek may not have the firepower to counter the American’s consistency. The pair also met at the last edition of Hua Hin earlier in 2024, when Volynets won 6-2 6-2.
Prediction: Volynets in 2
Nadia Podoroska vs Kateřina Siniaková
Head-to-head: Podoroska 2-0
While Siniakova should be confident in being the higher-ranked player, Podoroska won both of the pair’s meetings, including one this year in Madrid. Now ranked just outside the Top 70, Podoroska also won her first match 6-1 6-0. Siniakova will have to use her variety to break down Podoroska’s solid, consistent game. Siniakova may barely be the favorite when considering her experience at WTA 250 events, and look for her to flip the script in their head-to-head.
Prediction: Siniakova in 3
