Alexei Popyrin – Carlos Alcaraz
Alexei and Carlos are the best ranked players for Australia and Spain. This meeting will be played indoors on hard. Against France, Alexei lost against Humbert in straight sets. After that, against the Czech Republic. Since Alcaraz lost against Djokovic in the Olympic Games final, Carlos could not find his best form. He was upset in New York by Van de Zandschulp in the second round. Machac retired against Alcaraz in their opening Davis Cup match. After that, Alcaraz defeated Humbert in straight sets as we predicted.
We believe that Alcaraz is a way better player than Popyrin. Alexei showed solid tennis recently, but we believe that he will have no chance against Alcaraz.
That being said, we believe that Alcaraz will get the first win for Spain.
2nd potential matchup:
Thanasi Kokkinakis – Bautista-Agut
Jordan Thompson and Pablo Martinez are the second best ranked players for Australia and Spain. However, Kokkinakis has played both of the Davis Cup matches so far, so we believe that he will continue in that fashion. Thanasi won both of his opening Davis Cup matches. Roberto Bautista-Agut won his opening match against Lehecka in straight sets. After that, Agut won against Fils in three tight sets as we predicted. Because of those wins, we believe that he will continue playing for Spain as the second option.
Thanasi has been a better player than Jiri on the fast courts this season. He had a solid first two matches in the Davis Cup, so we believe that he will be fully confident coming into this match.
That being said, we believe that Kokkinakis will get the first win for Australia.
3rd potential matchup:
Purcell/Ebden – Alcaraz/Granollers
We expect Australia and Spain to play their doubles matches like this. Purcell and Ebden won their opening Davis Cup match against Herbert and Roger-Vasselin in three tight sets. After that, Matthew and Max defeated Mensik and Pavlasek in straight sets as we predicted. We believe that Alcaraz will play the doubles as well, because it will be the deciding match in this matchup. Granollers and Alcaraz won their doubles match against Mensik and Pavlasek in three tight sets. Carlos did not play many doubles tennis this season, but he is one of the best players in the world right now, so he will definitely be of help.
Purcell and Ebden have been playing great this season. We believe that they are one of the best doubles partners at the Davis Cup. Alcaraz and Granollers did not play much together, so we believe that this will be the main factor tomorrow.
That being said, we expect Purcell and Ebden to win the deciding match for Australia.
Best Bet to Make
It will probably all come down to the doubles match. The Aussies are way more experienced doubles partners, so we believe that they will close out this meeting with a win.
That being said, Australia winning 2-1 is a value bet.
