Ugo Humbert – Tomas Machac
Ugo and Tomas are the best ranked players for France and the Czech Republic. This meeting will be played indoors on hard. Humbert is still a top-20 player, even though his recent results were not brilliant. Ugo won his opening Davis Cup match against Popyrin in straight sets. After that, Ugo lost against Alcaraz in straight sets as we predicted. Machac had a solid tournament at the US Open where he reached the fourth round, losing against Draper in straight sets. Here at the Davis Cup, Machac retired in both of his matches. We are not sure if he will be fit for his match against Ugo.
We believe that Humbert is currently in better form than Machac. Ugo showed great tennis recently, so we think that he will be a better player on the court tomorrow. On the other hand, Tomas retired in both of his matches, so we are not sure if he will be ready for his match against Humbert.
That being said, we believe that Humbert will get the first win for France.
2nd potential matchup:
Arthur Fils – Jiri Lehecka
Arthur and Jiri are the second best ranked players for France and the Czech Republic. Fils had his biggest results on clay. However, he underperformed on the fast courts such as this one. Arthur lost his opening match against Kokkinakis in two tiebreaks. Fils had his chances in the second set, but fumbled under pressure. After that, Fils lost his second match against Bautista-Agut as we predicted. Lehecka reached the third round of the US Open, when he lost against Rublev in straight sets. So far this season, Jiri has struggled with the injuries, but seems to be fully fit right now. In his opening Davis Cup match against Bautista-Agut, Lehecka lost in straight sets.
Lehecka has been a better player than Fils on the fast courts this season. Fils has lost both of his matches so far, so we believe that he will continue in that fashion against Lehecka as well.
That being said, we believe that Lehecka will get the first win for the Czech Republic.
3rd potential matchup:
Herbert/Roger-Vasselin – Mensik/Pavlasek
We expect the Czech Republic and France to play their doubles matches like this. Mensik and Pavlasek played two doubles matches last year together. They won both of them in three tight sets. Mensik and Pavlasek lost their opening doubles match against Purcell and Ebden in straight sets as we predicted. Herbert and Roger-Vasselin lost their opening Davis Cup match against Ebden and Purcell in three tight sets.
Herbert and Roger-Vasselin are one of the most experienced doubles players at one moment. We believe that their experience will prevail in this match, and that they will win the deciding match for France.
That being said, we expect Herbert and Roger-Vasselin to dominate and win this match easily.
Best Bet to Make
It will all come down to the doubles match. We believe that Herbert and Roger-Vasselin will stay strong under the pressure, and get the deciding win for their country.
That being said, France winning 2-1 is a value bet.
