Davis Cup – World Group Teams Men
Belgium – Brazil: 14.09.2024 15:00 CEST
H2H: 2.0
1st potential matchup:
Zizou Bergs – Thiago Monteiro
Zizou and Thiago are the best ranked players for Belgium and Brazil. This meeting will be played indoors on hard. Zizou had his biggest results this season at the challenger tour level. Those results helped him cement his top 100 spot. Bergs won his opening match at the Davis Cup against Griekspoor in three sets, and showed great tennis. Monteiro spent most of his season playing on the clay courts. He had some solid results at the challenger tour level, which cemented his top 100 spot. Monteiro never had any success on the indoor courts. Monteiro lost his opening Davis Cup match against Arnaldi in three tight sets. Yesterday, against the Netherlands, Monteiro lost against Griekspoor in straight sets as we predicted.
We believe that Bergs will be a better player on the court tomorrow. He loves to play on the fast indoor courts. Monteiro is a solid clay court player, but we believe that he will have problems on such fast courts.
That being said, we believe that Bergs will get the first win for Belgium.
2nd potential matchup:
Raphael Collignon – Joao Fonseca
Raphael and Joao are the second best ranked players for Belgium and Brazil. Collignon is lurking around the top 200. So far in his career, Collignon has spent most of his time at the ITF/Challenger level. He had his biggest results on the clay courts. Raphael showed solid tennis in his opening match against Van de Zandschulp, where he lost in tight straight sets. Fonseca is a young Brazilian talent who loves to play on the clay courts. He failed to qualify at the US Open this year. So far this season, Fonseca has had his biggest results on clay. However, he also won a challenger title on the hard court in Lexington one month ago. Against Italy, Joao lost his opening match against Berrettini. Yesterday, against Van de Zandschulp, Fonseca won in straight sets.
We believe that Fonseca will dominate from the very start, and get the first win for Brazil. He is overall a better player than Collignon.
3rd potential matchup:
Gille/Vliegen – Melo/Matos
We expect Belgium and Brazil to play their doubles matches like this. Gille and Vliegen have been playing together for a long time now. They are experienced doubles partners with some solid results behind them. Gille and Vliegen won their opening match against Koolhof and Van de Zandschulp in three tight sets. Melo and Matos have been playing together for the last couple of months. They had already won one title together, which was in Stuttgart on grass. Yesterday, against Koolhof and Van de Zandschulp, Melo and Matos lost in straight sets.
Gille and Vliegen are one of the best doubles players at the Davis Cup. We believe that their experience will prevail in this match, and that they will close out this matchup, and get the deciding win for Belgium.
Best Bet to Make
We believe that it will all come down to the doubles match. Gille and Vliegen have better on-court chemistry, which should prevail in this matchup.
That being said, Belgium winning 2-1 is a value bet.
