Sebastian Baez – Otto Virtanen
Sebastian and Otto are the best ranked players for Argentina and Finland. This meeting will be played indoors on hard. Baez had his biggest results on clay. He usually underperformed on fast surfaces such as this one. Sebastian retired against Griekspoor in the second round at the US Open. In his opening match against Canada, Baez lost against Auger-Aliassime in straight sets as we predicted. Virtanen reached the second round of the US Open as a qualifier, where he lost against de Minaur in straight sets. Virtanen is a heavy hitter, and loves to play on the indoor hard courts. However, he is still a challenger tour level player. He is looking to get some solid results in this part of the season to get into the top 100. Yesterday, against Auger-Aliassime, Otto lost in straight sets as we predicted.
We believe that Virtanen will win this match. He is very dangerous on these fast courts. Baez never had any solid results on the fast indoor courts such as this one.
That being said, we believe that Virtanen will get the first win for Finland.
2nd potential matchup:
Francisco Cerundolo – Eero Vasa
Francisco and Eero are the second best ranked players for Argentina and Finland. Cerundolo did not have any remarkable results this season on hard courts. Being an Argentine, Cerundolo spent most of his career playing on the clay courts. Cerundolo lost his opening match against Shapovalov as we predicted. On the other hand, Eero Vasa is playing at the ITF level, and is currently ranked around the top 700. He is far away from the ATP tour level. Vasa lost both of his Davis Cup matches in straight sets as we predicted.
We believe that Cerundolo will be a better player on the indoor hard court tomorrow. Even though he is not in his best form, Cerundolo is still a way better player than Vasa.
That being said, we believe that Cerundolo will get the first win for Argentina.
3rd potential matchup:
Gonzalez/Molteni – Heliovaara/Virtanen
We expect Argentina and Finland to play their doubles like this. Gonzalez and Molteni won their opening Davis Cup match against the Canadians as we predicted. Heliovaara and Virtanen won their opening match against the Americans. However, they fell short yesterday against the Canadians in straight sets.
We believe that Heliovaara and Virtanen will struggle on the court against Gonzalez and Molteni. The Argentinians are solid doubles players on the indoor courts. We believe that they will win this match, and get the deciding win for Argentina.
Best Bet to Make
We believe that it will all come down to the doubles match. Gonzalez and Molteni have way more experience playing on the biggest stage than the Finns. We believe that their experience will prevail, and that they will win the deciding match for Argentina.
That being said, Argentina winning 2-1 is a value bet.
