Davis Cup – World Group Teams Men
Australia – France: 10.09.2024 16:00 CEST
H2H: 3-2
1st potential matchup:
Alexei Popyrin – Ugo Humbert
Alexei and Ugo are the best ranked players for Australia and France. This meeting will be played indoors on hard. Popyrin reached the fourth round at the US Open, where he lost against Tiafoe in four sets. En route to the fourth round, Popyrin won against Djokovic. Just shortly before the US Open, Popyrin lifted the biggest title of his career in Cincinnati. With such great results, Popyrin could soon be a top-20 player. Ugo Humbert was upset by Comesana in the second round of the US Open. Humbert is still a top-20 player, even though his recent results were not brilliant.
We believe that Popyrin is currently in a better form than Humbert. Alexei showed great tennis recently, so we think that he will be a better player on the court tonight.
That being said, we believe that Popyrin will get the first win for Australia.
2nd potential matchup:
Jordan Thompson – Arthur Fils
Jordan and Arthur are the second best ranked players for Australia and France. Thompson reached the second week at the US Open, where he lost against de Minaur in four sets. It was a solid tournament for the Aussie. So far this season, Thompson has been really consistent, which brought him into the top 30 in the rankings. On the other hand, Fils had his biggest results on clay. However, he underperformed on the fast courts such as this one.
Jordan has been a better player than Arthur on the fast courts this season. He had a solid US Open tournament, so we believe that he will be fully confident coming into this match.
That being said, we believe that Thompson will get the second win for Australia.
3rd potential matchup:
Purcell/Ebden – Herbert/Roger-Vasselin
We expect Australia and France to play their doubles matches like this. Max Purcell won the US Open doubles title with Thompson last week. He is one of the best doubles players at the moment. Matthew Ebden will play his last match/es for Australia this week. Ebden was always a great doubles player throughout his whole career. Last week in New York, Ebden reached the 1/8-Finals with his partner, Bopanna, when they lost against Gonzalez/Molteni in straight sets. Since Mahut has retired, Herbert has not played many doubles matches. He has played only four doubles matches this season, and lost three of them. He has also had different partners each time. Roger-Vasselin had his biggest results this season on clay. His last match was at the US Open, where he lost against Boyer/Nava in the first round of the tournament with his partner, Santiago Gonzalez.
Purcell and Ebden have been playing great this season. We believe that they are one of the best doubles partners at the Davis Cup. Herbert and Roger-Vasselin are completely out of form.
That being said, we expect Purcell and Ebden to dominate and win this match easily.
Best Bet to Make
The Aussies are all in better form than the French players. We believe that they will dominate in this matchup, and win 3-0.
That being said, Australia winning 3-0 is a value bet.
