Muchova had a favorable draw so far, but she still showed great tennis, and won those matches easily. In her opening round, Karolina won against the young American, Volynets, in straight sets. Muchova won the first set 6-3 convincingly. After that, in the second set, Karolina lost her serve three times, but still managed to close out the match in straight sets. After that, in the second round, Muchova defeated Osaka in straight sets. Muchova was 4-5 and 0-40 down in the second set, and saved three straight set points. In the third round, Karolina won against Potapova 6-4 6-2. She offered only two breakpoints, and saved both of them. Ranking-wise, Muchova had her biggest challenge in the 1/8-Finals where she faced the number 5 in the world, Jasmine Paolini. Muchova showed no respect, and won 6-3, 6-3 respectively. Yesterday in the quarterfinals, Karolina defeated Haddad Maia in straight sets. Muchova was a better player on the court from the very start, and showed great tennis once again. Last year in New York, Muchova reached the semifinals, where she lost against Coco Gauff in straight sets.

According to the bookies, Pegula is the slight favorite in this matchup. Just three weeks ago, Jessica faced Muchova in Cincinnati. Pegula won that match, after she lost the first set.
