ATP US Open quarterfinals
Sinner – Medvedev: 04.09.2024 Time TBA
H2H: 5-7
Jannik Sinner has won nine straight matches. Before the US Open, Jannik won the title in Cincinnati, winning against Tiafoe in the final as we predicted. Here in New York, Jannik won his first round match against McDonald in four sets as we predicted. Sinner looked emotionally exhausted in that opening match. He was obviously affected by the recent doping news. After that, in the second round, Sinner defeated Michelsen in straight sets as we predicted. Jannik lost his serve twice in the opening set. However, he stepped up his level in the second set, and after that, it was a one-sided match. The world number 1 won his third round match against O’Connell in straight sets as well. Christopher had no answer to Sinner’s game. Jannik had an amazing serving performance, not offering any breakpoints throughout the whole match. Yesterday, in the 1/8-Finals, Sinner defeated Paul in straight sets. Jannik was 1-4 down in the first set, but fought back and won the set through tiebreak. Both players played a great second set, but Jannik won the most important points and won the set once again through the tiebreak. It was overall a high-quality match. Last year in New York, Jannik lost in the fourth round against Zverev in five tough sets.
Daniil Medvedev has won four of his last five matches. Medvedev won his opening match against Lajovic in four sets. This was also his most challenging match so far in the tournament. Lajovic put up a fight, but just was not good enough to beat the Russian. After that, in the second round, Medvedev won against Marozsan in straight sets as we predicted. Daniiil was the better player throughout the whole match, and showed us why he loves to play in New York. His third round match against Cobolli went smoothly as well. Medvedev defeated Cobolli in straight sets as we predicted. Medvedev was broken in the first and third sets, but managed to break back and win comfortably. Yesterday in the 1/8-Finals, Daniil dominated against Borges, winning in easy straight sets as we predicted. He spent less than two hours, which is important for the upcoming matches and his fitness. Daniil loves to play in New York. He won his only Grand Slam title here in 2021. He was also runner-up twice, once in 2019, and the second time last year, when he lost against Novak Djokovic.
Best Bet to Make
According to the bookies, Jannik is the favorite in this matchup. Their last head-to-head meeting was this year at Wimbledon. Daniil won that match in five tough sets. Their last hard-court match was in Miami earlier this year. Sinner dominated in that match, losing only three games. Medvedev showed great tennis throughout the whole tournament, and we believe that this will be a very tight match, that could go either way. Sinner played solid tennis, but it was not his best tennis. His recent doping allegations impacted his tennis.
That being said, Medvedev covering the games handicap is a value bet.
