ATP US Open Dimitrov vs Tiafoe Best Bet

Frances Tiafoe in action ahead of the ATP Cincinnati Masters.

ATP US Open quarterfinals

Dimitrov – Tiafoe: 03.09.2024 Time TBA
H2H: 3-1

Grigor Dimitrov has won four of his last five matches. Before the US Open, Dimitrov failed in both preparation tournaments. However, Grigor won his opening round match against Jacquet in straight sets. It was a solid opening match for the Bulgarians. After that, in the second round, Dimitrov won once again in straight sets, against Hijikata. Grigor served well throughout the whole match, offering only one breakpoint. His best performance so far was in the third round against Griekspoor. Grigor won in straight sets, not offering any breakpoints. Dimitrov played his best tennis, and looked unstoppable. We saw once again why his nickname was “baby Federer”. Yesterday, in the 1/8-Finals, Dimitrov won a five-set thriller against Rublev. After being 2-0 up, Dimitrov lost his momentum. Andrey turned the match around, and pushed the match into the fifth deciding set. Grigor won the most important points in the fifth set, and closed out the match. So far this season, Dimitrov won the title in Brisbane at the beginning of the season, and reached the final in Miami, where he lost against Sinner in straight sets. Last year in New York, Dimitrov lost in the third round against Zverev.

Frances Tiafoe has won four of his last five matches. In the first round, Tiafoe defeated Kovacevic in four tight sets. Frances was inconsistent in that opening match, but managed to win. After that, in the second round, Shevchenko retired mid-match against Tiafoe. Shevchenko received a medical timeout midway through the second set, then retired after being broken after the first game of the third set. His toughest challenge was in the third round, where he spent over four hours on the court against Shelton. Tiafoe won that match in five tight sets as we predicted. Ben was 2-1 up, but Frances never stopped fighting and eventually turned the match around. Tiafoe was happy to hear that Popyrin upset Novak Djokovic in the third round. Popyrin could not repeat his third round performance, and just fumbled under the pressure in his 1/8-Final match against Tiafoe. Frances was the better player for the most part of the match, and managed to win in four tight sets. Tiafoe played aggressively throughout the whole match, hitting 44 winners, with only 20 unforced errors. His biggest result here in New York was reaching the semifinals two years ago. Last year in New York, Frances reached the quarterfinals where he lost against Shelton in four tight sets.

Best Bet to Make

According to the bookies, Grigor is the slight favorite in this matchup. At this moment, with the two biggest favorites, Alcaraz and Djokovic, being out of the tournament, both players are dark horses. Last time they played against each other was last year at Wimbledon, when Dimitrov won in straight sets. Their last hard court match was at the Australian Open in 2019. This time, Tiafoe won in four tight sets. We believe that this match will be a roller coaster type of match, with five possible sets.

That being said, over games is a value bet.
